I once could never imagine displaying any true anger towards my partner. I believed we’d always communicate calmly, like adults, without letting emotions get in the way or making us say things we don’t mean. I thought that if I ever yelled at a partner or he yelled at me, that that would mean the relationship was over.
You wouldn’t meet a complete stranger (as we do today, via online dating) back in the day. You met people in the circle already—friends or family of friends. There was barely two degrees of separation between dates and other people you knew very well. Today, we really do meet total strangers.
Life ebbs and flows a lot. In the first few years of a relationship, you need to put it first, to build that strong foundation. But if you’re together for decades, there will be times when you have to put your work, family, sick parent, or other things before the relationship. If it’s strong, it will survive.
