Discovering a gorgeous shade of nail polish is similar to falling in love at first sight; it’s instantaneous and hard to ignore. Nail color has become an accessory, like killer heels or a great bag, yet a manicure done professionally or at home is the easiest way to appear more polished (pun intended). Whether you’re a nail polish junkie or testing the lacquered waters, we’ve got a list of nail colors that will surely pique your interest. Explore our favorites and find the hue that tugs at your heart strings.
Navy
Navy blues are all the rage this season. Summertime is long gone, so leave those turquoise and robin’s egg shades in the past. Go on and dig deeper! 1. Nars, Night Flight ($17), a black-based polish featuring cobalt blue pearls reminds us of star gazing. A limited edition, the option of painting the heavens on your digits is only available for a short time. Not for you? Try 2. Essie, Midnight Cami ($8) This deep shimmering blue will reflect not only the light, but also how much of a fashionista you are. Searching for a navy with subtle shimmers and a matte finish? 3. OPI, Russian Navy Suede ($10.50+) will give you the best of both worlds!
Iridescent Olive
Now everyone can have green thumbs and fingers! Consider it a bonus that olive looks extra fabulous on warmer skin tones! Try a duo chrome polish like 1. Chanel, Peridot ($25). Or pick up, 2. Ginger+Liz, Tough Luxe ($12), a cool option infused with silver glitter. Last, but not least, stay shining with 3. butter London, Wallis ($14) a gorgeous combo of olive and tarnished gold. Don’t hesitate to add one of these shimmery military greens to your nail polish arsenal. “Be all you can be!”
Mauve
Mauve is the result of a ménage à trois between purple, pink, and brown. This muted color can act as a neutral that looks beautiful against brown skin. Test out 1. Sonia Kashuk, Mauving on Up ($4.99 online), a creamy version of the color. Or, 2. Forever 21, Mauve ($2.80) is a good choice if you’re lusting for a mauve that reads more brown and comes off playful. Don’t forget to give 3. YSL, Rose Cocktail ($18) some love too! This dusted rose will help you drift back to a time where you were surrounded by flowers in bloom, instead of falling, crusty leaves.
Gray
Go back to basics with a true gray. “Graige,” that beige and gray concoction of last season is O-V-E-R, over. 1. American Apparel, Echo Park ($6) is a medium-toned grey creme. Simple and clean are two words that describe it. 2. Rescue Beauty Lounge, Stormy ($18) stays true to it’s name, reminding us of the dark gray clouds that hover right before a snow storm. For more drama, try 3. Zoya, Laney ($8), a gunmetal hue that won’t go unnoticed! This season, gray matters.
Copper
It looks like copper is worth so much more these days. This bronze-y color really pops without appearing too gaudy. Even a polish with a high glitter content like 1. Ulta, Tink-Her-Bell ($6) is surprisingly wearable. 2. Orly, Flagstone Rush ($5.99) and 3. Estee Lauder, Shimmering Bronze ($19) both give off a true copper color and a pretty pearlized finish. Who needs a penny for your thoughts when wearing the shade shared with the coin is more rewarding and fab at the same time?
Burgundy
Take classic red a few shades further and stumble across beautiful burgundy. 1. China Glaze, Loft-y Ambitions ($7) poured on your nails will remind you of smooth red wine. Not to be vamp, but the name of 2. MAC, Vintage Vamp ($15) calls for it. With a gothic twist, this hue reminds us of a vampire’s favorite beverage, yet we bet mere mortals alike won’t be able to get enough of this color. 3. Deborah Lippmann, Razzle Dazzle ($16) also has us mesmerized! This darkened raspberry base is the ideal backdrop for loads of burgundy glitter. This is THE new red for fall!
Rainbow Glitter
Yum! Taste the glittery rainbow. This textured trend is for the woman who doesn’t take herself too seriously–well, at least when it comes to her nail color. The chunky glitter found in 1. Deborah Lippmann, Happy Birthday ($16) is a cause for celebration. Not feeling the drying process? Try nail polish strips like 2. Sally Hansen, Frock Star ($9.99) for a quick and mess-free multi-colored fix. Or, choose the most affordable of the lot with 3. Milani, Gems ($4.99). This glitter is even chunkier than the Deborah Lippmann competition, but they both can be layered over any polish to add a playful spin. Color us impressed!
