The goal in styling an oblong face is to give it a wider dimension by decreasing its length. This can be rather challenging, but when it’s done right, your best features will be accentuated.
Kelly Rowland is one celebrity with this face shape that I find hits it one minute, and misses it the next. Keep reading for my list of do’s and don’ts for oblong face shapes.
Don’t.
Avoid the middle part with straighter hair. This just makes your face appear narrower. Remember, your goal is to add width!
Do.
Bangs generally work for longer faces because they help decrease length. The added layers and side swept bangs give Kelly an illusion of a more angular face. Simply stunning!
Don’t.
Curls are a staple for many oblong-faced women because of their added volume. So what’s the problem with this? 1. There is too much volume on top, which just makes her face look even longer. 2. The curls seem to be overwhelming her face, making it look leaner.
Do.
Unlike the previous look, these curls are more flattering. Also notice how she has a middle part but the curls work to frame her face, giving it more dimension along the sides.
Don’t.
Hair at this length with no bangs = recipe for disaster. The hair is much shorter than her face with nothing to balance it out.
