Sex is a bigger deal than we all like to admit. Often our day to day handling of the big “S” doesn’t quite match up with society’s prim ideals and values. Whether you think it’s the way things should be or not, the horizontal mambo, or at least the glorification of it, is a thriving part of every institution known to man.
But is there something wrong when a woman takes this basic, widely known aspect of humanity and uses it to her advantage? If a woman is in charge of her sexuality, it seems she has a God given right to use it at her disposal.
“Play your strengths,” is generally accepted as a great strategy to get ahead in life. Why shouldn’t that apply to sex? Isn’t a woman using her “body capital” to get a head (get it?) the epitome of female empowerment?
On one hand, our hyper sexualized culture leads to episodes like the 14-year old caught Getting Her Jaws Worked on camera and thinking it’s all good. On the flip side, a well positioned display of sex at the right time, with the right guy, has launched some women’s dreams, inspiring every other woman to follow her own.
I’m sure you have an answer. In fact, it’s very likely your thoughts on the matter have limited you from using your own vagina power in your quest for success. But this list of modern day temptresses are thinking different than most. And they don’t give a dam what anyone else thinks.
Kim Kardashian
This woman is the god mother of temptresses everywhere. No one heard of her until her steamy sex-tape with Brandy’s little brother, Ray-J, leaked. Now, you can’t turn on a television, open a magazine or check your RSS feed without seeing her name. Kim could sell “how to” tapes on using body capital. Her strategy is impeccable. She made $5 mil from the sex video alone. Since then, the former Playboy cover girl has launched a fragrance line, retail shops and is getting paid from her TV deals. And I don’t think I’ve seen a bigger rock than the one given by her baller-hubby.
Lil’ Kim
That’s right, the Queen B took took her fling so far that most people forgot how she got there in the first place. But make no mistake, there would not have been a Notorious K.I.M” had she not been bumping uglies with the B.I.G. And as a side piece no less. There’s also no denying that Kim used her p**** power to climb the charts to become the first female rapper with a number 1 single on the Billboard charts.
Paris Hilton
What Kim Khardasian did to Paris reminds me of what R. Kelly did to Aaron Hall back in the day. Kim took Paris’ whole bit and made it hotter. But what makes Paris a particularly interesting case is that wealth wasn’t her main motivator. The girl has been, and always will be, rich. Paris wanted fame to go along with her fortune and that’s exactly what she got.
Mariah Carey
You’re probably thinking that there is no way that Mariah belongs on this list with the rest of these harlot hacks, but let’s look at the facts:
A. Mariah met a Sony Records label exec at a party,
B. Said Sony Record label exec instantly loved her “sound”
C.When they met, he was 40 and pasty, she was 20 and hungry
D.Her first album drops and three years later she marries her first husband–said Sony Records label exec
At the time, Sony pubbed it as a “Cinderella” story but if you ask me, sounds more like Sirens in the “Odyssey”
Vanity
My personal favorite–Denise Matthews was a struggling model when she met Prince at a the American Music Awards. Matthews emerged from Prince’s adventurous and sordid sexual realm as Vanity and her career hit easy street. She went from front woman of Vanity 6 to big time endorsement deals and movies like Purple Rain and The Last Dragon. Too bad she had a nasty drug habit.
Anna Nicole Smith
If you ask me, Anna Nicole got dealt a raw deal. She wedded a geezer fair and square, performed her duties as wife, then was fought tooth and nail for any of the oil tycoon’s inheritance in his passing. Even though Anna Nicole was ultimately denied a penny thanks to her late husband’s family, she used her body capital to soar to meteoric heights in modeling, fashion and T.V.
Amber Rose
“I ain’t saying she a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no broke” rapper. Amber Rose is simultaneously on fire and under fire for being who she is. She gets a lot of flack for being “talentless” but what does that mean? That she can’t act or sing? Well in that case, I guess fill in the black isn’t talented either. Amber’s true talents will surface as she uses her body capital to continue to turn an ill-fated relationship into a multi-million dollar empire.
So what do you think about how these women and others like them get where they want to go? The debate is sure to rage on for ages but the fact is, most of us will have several relationships before finding the one. At the end of the day, what will you have to show for years of sleeping with Mr. Wrong?
