She’s Gotta Have It (1986)
Spike Lee’s first feature film, She’s Gotta Have It, stars Nola Darling as the ultimate #carefreeblackgirl who is oh-so-fly! A perfect film to witness the exploration of Black female sexuality and womanism way before those were buzz words. Turn Valentine’s Day into Gal-entine’s Day!

Vivica Fox has always been the HBIC and for good reasons. But, if you’re looking for a night of laughter and ways to navigate the dating world, then Two Can Play That Game might be a great choice! Side note–Anthony Anderson and Monique are members of this ensemble cast–what more could you ask for?
Set It Off (1996)
Set It Off is arguably one of the best girlfrans movies to watch with the crew –and to learn how to rob a bank! Something New (2006)

An unlikely love story that makes you feel for women who’s loved ones are imprisoned. This film is a must-see, especially on Valentine’s Day, to witness the true ins and outs of relationships and not just the honeymoon phase. After watching maybe you won’t feel so glum about being single.
Claudine (1974)
A product of the blaxploitation film period of the 70s, Claudine is a cult classic and rare representation of the single Black mom trying to rise above her circumstances. Although many aspects of the film are problematic, it exposes truths of love and relationships in a relatable way–a perfect film to enjoy with family.

Not exactly a film that was destined to garner an Oscar, but BAPS’ lighthearted humor from two Black women entrepreneurs as character leads may inspire you to start a business. Check out this film to lighten up the day with your girl.
For Colored Girls (2010)
A film adapted from Ntozake Shange’s poem, for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf , will make your Valentine’s Day feel empowered after witnessing the journeys of struggle and strength that the powerful characters faced and overcame.
Waiting To Exhale (1995)
We know this one is a little heavy, but it’s also a powerful reminder of the beauty of sisterhood when times get tough.
