When dark skin appears in your armpits, between your thighs or in any other areas, there can be a lot of causes. Anything from shaving to friction to some of the products we use can darken sensitive skin significantly.

Most of the time it’s no big deal. No one spends a ton of time looking at those areas anyway. But when you’re ready to show some skin, it can become a problem. If you’re really looking to do something about it, we’ve got you covered.

These methods will lighten most dark areas, but they take time. Stick with it and you could see some real changes by the time bikini season rolls around again.

Ditch the Deodorant ASAP

Skipping deodorant isn’t always an option. But you should wash it off as soon as you’re done with your day to remove any residual product that might be darkening your skin.

Exfoliating afterward will help you get a deeper clean and keep dark spots from popping up.

Wax

When the warmer months roll around again, consider waxing. The right wax (sugaring wax is popular) exfoliates the skin on your armpits and removes the hair from its root without doing a lot of damage to the skin.

Find a Permanent Solution

If your skin is irritated, you keep seeing dark spots pop up and waxing is out of the question, consider laser hair removal to get rid of the hair in that area permanently.

Wear Looser Sleeves

Friction is one major cause of underarm darkening. Loosen up for the winter months to help with that, as well as sweating. Keep clothing out of the area that is seeing dark spots and give it time to breathe.
