Tracy Reese Expands To Plus Size Clothing

Plus-size women have been demanding more inclusion from the fashion world for about as long as African American women have and slowly, but surely, a number of designers have answered the call. We’re happy to report Tracy Reese is expanding to plus size!

“It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a while,” Reese told Refinery29 of her decision to expand her collections’s sizes. “Anytime I have made appearances at stores, there are always customers asking for more extensive sizing.”

While traditionally Reese’s apparel has been sold in sizes 0 to 12 and XS to L — with a few pieces offered in size 14 or XL — now some of her new designs will come in sizes 0 to 18 and XS to 2XL. Reese will start the expansion with her classic silhouette dresses, though in coming seasons she hopes to offer even more options in terms of styles and even sizes beyond an 18 or 2XL. But right now the designer has chosen to start small to make sure she’s actually serving full-figured customers’ needs and offering the same quality her brand is known for.

“Nailing the correct proportions as we grade up in sizing is extremely important,” she said. “Just because the customer is more voluptuous, doesn’t necessarily mean she is taller. I do not want to offer an inferior product to our expanded-sizing customers. I believe she will be willing to pay the same prices for quality.”
