Over the weekend, Afropunk 2016 took place in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park. Featuring vibrant musical performances on four different stages from the likes of Janelle Monae, The Internet, Living Colour, Angel Haze, George Clinton, Ice Cube, Laura Mvula, Shabazz Palaces, and Saul Williams, just to name a few, anyone in attendance at the annual two-day fest was lucky, to say the least. A worldwide movement (with festivals in London and Paris as well) void of sexism, racism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, fatphobia, transphobia and all out hate, Afropunk – now in its 11th year – is a festival of live music, fashion, one-of-a-kind art (via Afropunk’s Spinthrift Market), good vibes and love. Afropunk even hosts After Dark events at bars, restaurants and other locales in Fort Greene and Williamsburg. Naturally, we had to spread some of that beautiful love around. Check out some pics and video of performers, the highly creative and stylish crowd, and overall Afropunk community at this year’s fest.
