Even when you’re all about being body positive, waking up to a puffy stomach can be annoying. Especially when your new fitted pencil skirt was in today’s wardrobe plan.

Sometimes it’s that time of the month, sometimes it’s something you ate. But if bloat catches you by surprise when you’d rather it didn’t, these foods belong in your kitchen. Not only will they keep bloat at bay, they’ll act as a quick hunger fix in a pinch. And because they’re also great for your body, you can snack on them anytime with zero guilt.

Tomatoes

When you know you’ve had a little more salt than you should, try eating something with fresh or cooked tomatoes. They’re great at helping you flush out excess sodium which can lead to bloat.

Watermelon

Also known as the fruit for people who don’t like water. Each slice is around 92% water, so feel free to eat around 8 cups a day when it’s in season. It’s only 45 calories per cup.

Asparagus

The best part about asparagus is that it works fast — within 30 minutes of eating it, its bloat-beating compound mercaptan goes to work. The bad news? It’s the same compound that makes your pee smell less than great.

Lentils

While white rice has a reputation of bloating some of us, lentils are an amazing replacement. They’re high in protein, fiber and complex carbs which keep you full and keep your stomach happy and flat.
