Just how red does a red flag have to be for it to be a problem? When it comes to a new relationship, which behaviors are insignificant pet peeves, and which ones are problematic? Some behavior clearly screams “run for the hills,” but what about those red flags that fall into more of a gray area?

Not every man deserves to be an exception to the rule. But if you’ve found someone who’s perfect for you in every way — well, but in one or two ways, there’s no need to panic just yet. If you spot these warning signs, it might be best to adopt a wait and see policy.

Wanting what’s best for you can make some family members overly cautious. It’s fair to take their advice with a grain of salt — especially if they still don’t know him very well. They might change their minds down the line when he proves he’s a good catch.

Sometimes moms have trouble letting go when they see their sons getting serious with someone. She might learn to like you after spending time with you. And even if she doesn’t, a truly good relationship (and a partner who sets boundaries) will have the strength to survive her disapproval.
