When it comes to food preferences, some of us just like it hot, myself included. As in, really hot–to the point of opening your sinuses and watering your eyes. Anything that’s too bland is in danger of being splashed with some hot sauce — even if I’m at someone else’s house. Want to eat what I’ve prepared? Better have a glass of water ready.

And as it turns out, a “hot sauce on err’thang” policy is a good one to keep. Have hot sauce at every meal and you can improve your health, live longer, and even battle the common cold. The spicier the hot sauce? The better the benefits of the heat inside.

So don’t be afraid to pour it on. And the next time someone teases you for keeping a bottle of Tabasco in your purse, take a moment to school them on all of the health benefits of hot sauce.
