How To Stay Dry And Deal While Dealing With Summer Sweat

Summer is one of the best times of the year. Shorts are back in season, restaurant patios are open, and every day feels and looks like the weekend–when you’re not stuck in the office of course. But summer is also one of the hottest times of the year, making it an uncomfortable season for those of us who sweat after being in the sun for just a little while.

With that being said, when the temperature turns up it can wet your wardrobe, sweat out or puff up your hair, and leave you feeling less than fresh. It may be nature’s way, but nobody likes it when they feel themselves perspiring profusely in the middle of the day.

Luckily, there are lots of ways to bask in the summer sun without finding yourself in an uncomfortable situation. These tips help you stop heavy perspiration in its tracks — and deal with it on days that are so hot that a little exudation is unavoidable.

Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing

Dread taking your jacket off when you come back from your walk to find lunch? Switch to loose-fitting clothing.

Choose garments that have an inch or two of give around your armpits and they won’t leave permanent sweat circles in your wardrobe.

Try Dry Shampoo

It will help clean up your scalp when it feels less than fresh from sweating.

Give Your Deodorant A Chance to Dry

And do so before you go outside in the hot sun. Dry deodorant helps seal moisture in.

Put Antiperspirant on Sparingly

Experts say that more deodorant doesn’t equal more protection. It does cause yellow pit stains in your favorite garment, though.

Chill on the Hot Food

The heat in spicy food makes you more prone to sweat. And hot soup in hot weather? Sounds like a pretty uncomfortable dinner.

Avoid Broccoli

Also, steer clear of cabbage, cauliflower, garlic and onions. These foods contain sulfur and other compounds that make sweat smell bad.

Dodge Afternoon Drinks

Drinks during lunchtime can lead to an odor. Sometimes alcohol metabolizes into acetic acid, which can give even a light sweat a particular smell.

Keep Sweat Stains from Setting In

If you can’t keep sweat stains from happening, you can keep them from setting. If they don’t come out in the wash, don’t dry or iron them because heat helps sweat stains set in.

Instead, soak the clothing in one part water and two parts vinegar and wash them again. Or, take them to the dry cleaners to have them professionally treated.

It’s hot, your new deodorant isn’t doing its job, and you have a date for drinks during happy hour. It might be time for sweat guards. You can order them online and keep them in your purse. Or, in a pinch, make your own with tape and paper towels.
