You should live alone at least once in your lifetime simply because it pushes you to be comfortable with your own company. That’s a pretty major reason. But there are a few more basic and practical things you will learn when you live by yourself. Think about it; when you live alone you can’t count on a roommate to get home so you have somebody to walk the dog with at night time. You don’t have a boyfriend to kill a spider. You don’t have anyone to share the burden of chores. You also don’t have anyone to yell at about chores that aren’t done. Everything is on you. You have to keep yourself safe and keep your place clean and uplifting, all on your own. And finally, you have nobody to worry about catching you in your weird behaviors. For that last reason, you might discover some weird behaviors that never came out before. Here are funny things you learn when you live alone.

It’s good to know your neighbors

In the past, you may have thought your roommate was enough company in the building. Now that you’re alone, you actually want to know your neighbors so that they come to care about you, and look out for you.

When you tell your friends that you live alone, they will tell you that they are worried about you. A lot of friends will offer to come keep you company if you ever feel afraid.

Drinking a bottle of wine at night isn’t normal

When you had a roommate, you would both sit down to share a bottle of wine. You wouldn’t pay attention to who drank what and how one bottle would turn into two. Now if you do that solo, it feels a little unhealthy.

Working out alone isn’t fun

In fact, the only reason you used to work out regularly is because you’d go to the gym with your roommate. At the very least, seeing her go made you feel like you should eventually go, too.

You say goodbye to your pride

Since you don’t have a roommate or partner to ask for help, you need to ask your neighbors or friends who live elsewhere. You have to ask friends to bring you things, or ask your neighbors to watch your dog. In a way you become more independent, but in many other ways you realize how much you depend on others, and you embrace that.
