Men might say that they want a woman who knows how to party (or who doesn’t party); they might say they want a woman who would make a good mom or a woman who has a sense of humor. Some guys even say they want very specific traits like a woman who is athletic or a woman who is into comic books. The truth is even if most men found a woman who embodied all of those things, they wouldn’t stay with her if this one very important dynamic was missing: they didn’t feel safe with her. At the end of the day, men just want to be with somebody who they feel they can be vulnerable around, act goofy around, and even fail in front of without having to fear judgement or punishment. Nobody wants to spend their lives worried that if their phone dies or they smile at another woman, they’ll get in a fight with their partner. He tells you about guys weekend

After a weekend with the guys, he tells you about all of the drunken, ridiculous and inappropriate shenanigans. He’ll tell you the stories that most men hide from their girlfriends and wives.

He tells you he’s gassy

He tells you he’s gassy. He tells you he needs to go to the bathroom for a half hour and have you turn the TV up extra loud.

He calls you when he’s stressed

If he has to go on a business trip that will be extremely stressful, he calls you whenever he has a chance, just because you provide immediate stress-relief for him.

He asks you to comfort him

He isn’t too proud to call you and say, “I’m sort of a mess right now. Can you just come over and comfort me?”

He teases you

He lovingly teases you because he knows that you know he means well, and you’re comfortable enough in yourself to be teased.

He doesn’t check in constantly

If he goes on a trip, he doesn’t feel the need to call you every hour. He knows he can just call you in the morning and night, and otherwise just enjoy his trip. You won’t get mad.

He’ll get a little drunk around you

He feels safe enough with you to get a little toasty around you. He knows he might do or say something stupid, but that you won’t get angry.

He’s open about his finances

He’ll let you know when money is tight, and he just can’t afford to take you on fancy date nights for a while. He doesn’t hide that fact, continue taking you out, and secretly borrow money from his parents just to sustain that lifestyle.

He can sit happily in silence next to you. He’s so content in your presence that he can let his mind wander, or just become still.

He tells you about his screw-ups

He opens up to you about times he screws up. If he totally embarrassed himself at work, he’ll tell you about it.

He tells you he just pleased himself

If you call him, and he ignores your call, he’ll send you a text saying, “Just jerking off call you right back.” He knows you won’t get all grossed out, or say something like, “You should save your stamina for me!”

He’ll invite you to guys night

He will actually invite you to guys night—where he and his friends get pretty drunk and say some pretty outrageous (and often offensive) stuff. He knows you won’t judge.

He brings you around his rowdiest friend

You know that one wild card friend—the one who gets too turnt up and always brings a totally random woman home from the bar? The one who falls asleep in your yard? He doesn’t feel the need to shield you from that.

He’s okay with you making more money

He doesn’t become resentful or embarrassed when you make more money than him. He doesn’t have outbursts of needing to “prove himself” as a man, just because his bank account is less padded.
