Signs You’re A Grown Up Mean Girl

1- 80-90 percent of your conversation consists of talking about other people

Let’s be real, we all talk about people but seriously if you spend a majority of your day criticizing your friends, strangers you see on the street, celebrities and small children for what they wear, how their hair is done and their weight then maybe you need to reevaluate your life. When you devote that much time and attention to other people, please believe there are areas in your life that are slacking as well. Best tidy up your own garden before you try to prune your neighbor’s.

2- High school was the best time of your life

If you’re caught up trying to relive the glory days of high school as a grown woman in your thirties, perhaps something is wrong. I had a middle school math teacher who said, “People who say that high school was the best time of their lives usually haven’t done anything since.” Now, this is not some jab at people who didn’t go to college for one reason or another;  naw, this is about people who prefer the immature, cliquish environment of high school than the real world where who you dated and popularity become increasingly less important.

3- You find it physically painful to compliment other women

You will look a woman up down and sideways, admiring her outfit before you part your lips to compliment her. It’s not a requirement to compliment others but if you go out of your way to avoid it, then there may be an issue there. Could it be that you believe complimenting another woman somehow threatens you?

4- You take a perverse pleasure in seducing men that are unavailable

You knew when brotha man walked in the place to be that he belonged to someone else. But instead of falling back and admiring from a far you’re all up in his face, doing whatever you can to cause some trouble. Why boo boo? Leave it alone. A classic symptom of any mean girl/woman is one that needs attention at all costs. Sit down.

5- You look for weakness in others…and you pounce.

Human beings are animals and animals can smell fear. But instead of recognizing someone’s insecurity and trying to make them feel better about it, you’ve decided to use it to your advantage. Preying on their weaknesses to make yourself feel superior. It’s sick. But at the end of the day it’s less a reflection of how “weak” they are and more of an indicator of how you truly feel about yourself.
