Nobody is complaining here. Being in a loving relationship comes with far more pros than cons. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that, after you’ve been single for a while and you get into a new relationship, there are a few adjustments that can be a shock to the system. Here’s why relationships are hard when you’ve been single for quite some time.

Dinner in a relationship

When you’re in a relationship, you feel rude doing your own thing for dinner. You call your partner and ask what he wants. He wants something totally different from what you want. You have three options: You both eat what he wants, and you’re unhappy, you both eat what you want, and he’s unhappy, or you pick up some “compromise” food and neither of you gets the meal you initially wanted. But hey, sometimes you get lucky and crave the same thing.

Sleep when you’re single

When you’re single, the only things that dictate your sleep habits are your discipline (knowing when to put down the phone, cut off the TV and go to bed), and maybe how much noise your neighbors make. If you don’t need to get up until 9 a.m., you probably won’t get up until 9 a.m.

Vacations in a relationship

When you’re in a relationship, unless you’re rolling in the dough, you can’t just pick up and go to Hawaii with your friends. You need to see if your partner also wanted to go on a trip in the near future and see if you can afford to do both. If you can’t, you have to choose the trip with your partner.

Not sleeping at home in a relationship

Even if you don’t live with your partner, you still feel obligated to tell them in advance when you’re not going to be home. If your partner stops by and finds you’re not home, but you didn’t say you were sleeping elsewhere, you’re afraid he’ll suspect that you’re cheating.
