Don’t call it a comeback. Cornrows have been here for years.

And years. And years. And I’m sure we all remember that point in time when they were everywhere. With beads (thanks a lot, Alicia…) and in all sorts of designs. Then all of a sudden they slowly faded into the background, or better yet, back underneath weaves and wigs. But as of late, in an effort to diversify the way we wear braids as protective styles, cornrows are on fire once again. This time around with extensions for dramatic length and fullness. Here are a few looks we’re loving that everyday women are wearing everywhere.

Straight Back

Easy to do. Cute and chic. And they’re great for just about everything, including, as Keri Hilson shows, intense workouts.

Double Braids

These braids, varying in width and going in a wave pattern, are an exotic take on your everyday cornrows.

Dynamic Designs

We’ve fallen head over heels in love with all the intricate designs stylist Breija did on this young woman’s hair. We could probably do without the baby hair, but everything else is hot!

A Lovely Mix

Who says your cornrows can only go in one direction? Mix it up like stylist Nisa did for this lucky client.

One-Sided Wonder

Take braids from one side of the head to the opposite and have hair sweep to one side. Janet’s take on this style is quite gorgeous.

Cherry Bomb

If doing intricate plaits around two large braids isn’t enough to get heads turning, add a pop of color. Stylist Relly took this elaborate style to the next level with cherry red extensions.

Buy One, Get One Free

Loving that stylist Janet allowed some of the clients hair to shine while including small plaits and larger ones that stand out thanks to extensions. All came together to form one fabulous braid sure to last for weeks.

Mix It Up With Twists

If you love Senegalese twists, braid them like cornrows in the front and let them hang like normal in the back. Pull some of the braids up at the crown for a beautiful bun.

A Twist On Straight Backs

With the help of extensions, switch up the sizes of the braids. They might be braids that go straight back, but the variation will look anything but simple.

A Bun Never Fails

But try a low one with braids that go straight back and are thicker in width. This look is simple enough to get away with at work but elaborate enough to still make a statement with your locks.
