10. “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten

9. “Lean On” by Major Lazer and DJ Snake featuring MØ

Last year DJ Snake had us screaming, “Turn down for what!” with his smash hit featuring Lil Jon, and this year is no different.  For the second year in a row, the DJ heats up the summer with a banging song. The international DJ teamed up with Major Lazer and MØ for the electronic/dancehall reggae hybrid “Lean On.” The song took the world by storm becoming popular in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Denmark and Switzerland. Not to mention, “Lean On” became the most globally streamed song of the summer.

8. “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon

“Shut Up and Dance” is so peppy and upbeat that you really have no other choice but to shut up and dance every time the song comes on the radio. The song is inspired by a night frontman Nicholas Petricca and his girlfriend had at a club. She invited him to dance, inspiring the name of the song. “Shut Up and Dance” is perfect if you want to dance your frustrations away.

7. “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap

Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” was so catchy, other rappers like Fabolous, Lil Kim and French Montana rapped their own freestyles to the song. The Paterson, New Jersey rapper’s ubiquitous song helped him become a household name virtually overnight. Fetty Wap performed the song on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, and the crowd went crazy when pop star Taylor Swift brought him out as a surprise guest, helping him perform his song at her sold out concert in Seattle.

6. “Watch Me” by Silento

Silento is single-handedly responsible for this year’s dance craze. The 17-year-old Atlanta rapper’s song “Watch Me” was in heavy rotation all across the country and he had everyone from toddlers to octogenarians doing the “Whip and Nae Nae” and the “Stanky Leg.” YouTube is bubbling with videos of people doing the dance. Most recently, Gary Buesy can be seen doing his best to “Whip and Nae Nae” on the promo for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

5. “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd

The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” is a Michael Jackson-esque club banger that shot straight up to the top of the Billboard chart, making it his first number one single. The song is so popular music legend Stevie Wonder gushed about how much he loved the song and sang his own rendition of the song during a recent concert in New York City’s Central Park.

4. “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar

If there was any doubt about Taylor Swift’s dominance in the pop world, her smash single “Bad Blood” cleared it up. The song, featuring Kendrick Lamar, is Swift’s biggest summer hit to date. “Bad Blood’s” popularity could have something to do with the rumor that the song is about her falling out with former friend Katy Perry. The star-studded music video no doubt helped the song’s popularity grow.

3. “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth

In 2011, Wiz Khalifa had everyone singing “Black and Yellow” and the song became his first number one single in the U.S. It took the lanky Pittsburgh rapper four years to score his second number one single. “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth lives on the Furious 7 soundtrack and serves as a musical tribute to actor Paul Walker, who was killed in a single car crash.

2. “Classic Man” by Jidenna featuring Kendrick Lamar

The original version of “Classic Man” has been knocking speakers since the springtime, but this summer the Wondaland Records signee set the music world ablaze with the official remix. The Kendrick Lamar-assisted remix boasted of the same funky Bay area beat, but K Dot’s killer Compton bars took it to the next level.

1. “Cheerleader” by OMI

OMI’s “Cheerleader” may seem like an overnight success but the song has been seven years in the making. The dancehall reggae artist wrote the song back in 2008 and it slowly climbed its way up the charts in his home country of Jamaica. “Cheerleader” is the first reggae song to claim the number one spot of the Billboard chart since 1993. OMI’s debut album is expected to hit shelves next month.
