The Ice Cream Man: King of the South

Are you ready to “Make ‘Em Say Uhh” once again? Third Coast rap legend Master P is getting his own biopic. And even though it already has a title, Master P is still looking for actors to play him in the starring role. Apparently, producers have been traveling from city to city looking for just the right man to play the part.

Tupac Shakur

It looks like the new Tupac biopic is just as full of beef as the rapper’s life was.

Director John Singleton recently took to Instagram to announce that not only was he dropping out of the biopic, but to also say that “If Tupac knew what was going on, he’d ride on all these fools and take it to the streets…but I won’t do that.”

So what’s going to happen to Tupac’s story? Not only is the original still biopic set to be released (albeit with a new director), but Singleton said he’s going to direct his own competing biopic that tells the real story.

Aretha Franklin

This biopic has been in the works for a long time. But now that Jennifer Hudson is in talks to play the legendary songstress (and Straight Outta Compton‘s Scott Bernstein is set to produce this biopic), we’re excited all over again. This project doesn’t have a title yet, but they say it will be very music-heavy, which has us hoping that we’ll get an album full of Aretha covers to boot!

The Birth of a Nation

Ever since we heard that this Nat Turner biopic will star and be directed by actor Nate Parker, we’ve been eagerly anticipating this important historical film about the revolutionary slave. And now that Gabrielle Union, Aja Naomi King, and Arnie Hammer have joined the star-studded cast, we’re dying for the 2016 release date to roll around.

Harriet Tubman

We know Harriet Tubman’s story. But this new biopic won’t only focus on the freedom fighter’s part in the Underground Railroad, but also the story of her role in the Civil War fighting for the Union Army.

And who will star as Harriet Tubman? Actress Viola Davis. We’re here for it.

Tammi Terrell

Tammi Terrell’s star sparkled so bright and briefly that fans have always said that she never got her just due. Hopefully, her new biopic will change all that. But who’s in line to play the singer? The Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham.

And Graham said that she’s beyond excited to bring Terrell’s story to life:

“I immediately connected to Tammi and her story in many ways and have felt the incredible need to tell it. Tammi Terrell defined passion and soul itself…Getting lost in the music enabled her to override life’s punishments — for when she sang, she could use the hurt to create greatness and give the world hope that maybe they could overcome their pain as well.”

How do you feel about this casting choice?

Emperor

Need more Game of Thrones in your life? Then the new Julius Caesar biopic Emperor is going to be right up your alley. The producers of 300 said they are going to give this historical story the Game of Thrones treatment to keep movie lovers and history buffs on the edge of their seats.

Can’t wait to watch!

Xscape

OK, before you get too excited, Kandi Burruss has only hinted at a biopic about her former girl group. But she did have this to say:

“I think an Xscape movie would be great to be honest with you. When I tell you–just like all girl groups it was some crazy moments and I think it would make for a great, great movie.”

And if the excited response of fans to this possible biopic is any sign, tons of people are looking forward to such a project.

New Edition

Would you watch a New Edition biopic that didn’t involve Bobby Brown? That’s the position fans might be in as BET gets ready to release a three-night New Edition mini-series co-produced by Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant. But not Bobby Brown.

Although Brown isn’t involved, there’s still plenty of reasons to get excited. Execs say the biopic will follow the story of one of music’s most influential boy bands and feature plenty of hit music from the famous crew. Will you tune in?
