Beyoncé had all of her fans excited when she appeared on the cover of Vogue‘s September issue, but there was no interview inside. In fact, the superstar hasn’t done a direct interview with the press in more than a year. But she’s not the only celebrity who has shied away from giving interviews. These stars said they avoid the media whenever they can — and you might be surprised at some of the reasons why.

Johnny Depp

The reason Johnny Depp rarely gives interviews and why you don’t often see him out and about is because he hates being famous.

Depp has said that being famous is “a little bit like living like a fugitive. Everything has to be some sort of strategy. To get you into the hotel, to get you out of the hotel, to get you into the restaurant, to get you out of the restaurant.”

So now he lives abroad and under the radar until it’s time for the movie cameras to start rolling.

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper said that if he’s not promoting a movie, he avoids giving his two cents to the media. Why? Cooper has said that he’s afraid that letting fans in on who he really is might distract from his work in front of the camera:

“For me, maybe I’m old-fashioned, if I know so much about you and you’re playing a character in a movie then that’s a lot of work I’m gonna have to do to forget who you are so that I can believe the character and therefore enjoy the movie.”

Do you agree?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen may be the most famous twins in the world, but they rarely give interviews and don’t have social media accounts. In a rare chat with Style.com in 2011, Ashley Olsen revealed that sharing personal info gives her “so much anxiety.” Mary-Kate agreed saying,”We’ve spent our whole lives trying to not let people have that accessibility, so it would go against everything we’ve done in our lives to not be in the public.”

Karreuche Tran

Back in June, Chris Brown told Karreuche Tran to stop doing interviews about him after he spotted her Access Hollywood interview where she divulged about their troublesome past together. Although Tran took issue with his request on Instagram, she hasn’t spoken up about him since. Could this be a the last we hear of this roller-coaster relationship?

Adele

Insult Adele’s weight (*cough*Karl Lagerfeld*cough*) and she’ll speak up. But aside from putting catty celebrities in their place, we rarely hear from the singer. Her elusiveness has left us dying for more insight into the mind behind the music (and a hint on when the next album is coming out).

Kate Moss

Supermodel Kate Moss has given so few interviews over her legendary career that there was even a rumor at one time that she couldn’t talk at all. But Moss isn’t mute. When she finally spoke up about her famous penchant for silence, she revealed her real reason for refusing to talk to the press:

“I just didn’t like it. When I first started out I did press because I wasn’t really aware that they would write something really horrible but then they did, and I was like: “Oh no, I don’t want to go back there. I don’t really want to open up myself to that kind of criticism.”

George Clooney

George Clooney has said that he’s not afraid of doing interviews, but he is afraid of being on Twitter:

“God forbid, you take a sleeping pill and wake up and the sentences don’t even make sense. What a horrible idea… I could easily say something stupid, and I also don’t think you need to be that available.”

Anyone else dying to hear what Clooney’s afraid that he might say?
