Damon Wayans Jr. Talks Police Brutality With Sway

Funny man Damon Wayans Jr. has put all jokes aside in planning for a sequel to the 2014 film Lets Be Cops. The movie grossed more than $80 million in the box office and talk of a Lets Be Cops 2 has begun, but Wayans says he’ll have no part until something is done about police brutality in America.

In a recent interview with Sway in the Morning, Wayans spoke on his position and why he won’t play another reckless cop anytime soon.

After a caller dialed in and asked if Wayan’s was down for the sequel, he replied, “I don’t think we’ll make another ’til they stop smoking Black dudes. You know? Until they fix the police brutality.”

One can tell from the caller’s voice he was not expecting such a serious comment, as the show had been light-hearted and full of jokes for the first 10 minutes. But Wayan’s demeanor quickly shifted when speaking on the issues Black people are facing in America.

“I personally don’t want to make another one because I feel like I would be betraying my people,” Wayans continued.

The caller then shifted his all-laughs mentality too, “you know what, that’s some real life sh*t,” he responded; even though he added he was a little disappointed.

The veteran comedian assured the caller that he had more comedic productions up his sleeve. Wayans and his co-star in Let’s Be Cops, Jake Johnson, are developing their own movie that will be “10 times funnier” said the star.
