When was the last time you bought something for yourself that you really wanted without feeling pangs of guilt? Or the last time you spent the day at the spa without feeling bad that you took a day off from playing chauffeur, cook, nurse and counselor? Mommies will never be without work to do at the house, but for the sake of your own sanity, it’s imperative that every once in a blue moon you treat yourself. Who deserves it more than you? Even if it’s only for a few hours, one day, every couple of weeks, everybody deserves a break. If it’s been so long since you’ve treated yourself that you can’t even think of the first thing you’d like to do, allow us to offer you 15 options here on how to give yourself a rest.
Treat Yo Self: 15 Ways To Indulge Yourself
Rub Me the Right Way
If you’ve never had a deep tissue massage, schedule that appointment today. Deep tissue massages might be the ultimate form of self indulgence. If you have a couple of hours free, carve out a piece of your day to get rubbed down. If the massage is especially good you’ll fall asleep and face it, you could use a nap.
Lashing Out
Eyelash extensions can be kind of expensive but it’s a quick and easy way to feel better about your beauty regimen every morning. Also, it’s a major time saver in the mornings to already have your lashes in place when you’re running out of the door.
Budding Beauties
Every week when you go grocery shopping you walk right by the fresh flowers. Of course that might not be what you hit the supermarket for, but once a week it’s quick and easy to get yourself some fresh flowers for the house. Particularly for your bedroom.
Adventure Time
If each day is filled with pretty much the same activities it’s good to switch things up sometimes. Send the kids to spend some time with relatives and hit the streets. It doesn’t matter what you get yourself into, as long as its something different. Whether you want to go window shopping or visit the next city over, it’ll be good to get out of the norm at least for half a day. Bring your beau too, if you have one.
Under Where?
Lingerie is one simple way to be indulgent. Especially if you can’t remember the last time you went underwear shopping. Whether you have a man or not, some sexy silk nightgowns and robes should do the trick in elevating your mood.
Just a Taste
There are a ton of restaurants that offer chef tasting menus. Most times, these menus cost a little bit more then your average plate. But at least you’ll get to try a number of new things at a set price — that way you’ll really feel as if you are treating yourself.
Wine Down
A lot times it doesn’t take much at all to feel relaxed at home, especially if it’s quiet. Send the kids on a sleepover and visit your local wine shop for a decent bottle of either red or white. Then once you get back to the house: light a scented candle, catch up on Shondra Rhimes’ greatest hits On Demand. Polish off a couple glasses of wine and that should do it.
Work It Out
A lot of times it’s only a matter of getting the blood flowing to feel like you are in a better mood. If running laps isn’t your thing then do some research about some more creative workout plans in your area. One that seems to be gaining popularity is the barre workout. You don’t have to have any ballet training to partake either.
Book It
Too frequently, we don’t even have time to get through a full chapter without the kids screaming in need or about something they want. One easy way to treat yourself would be to go outside, get some fresh air and get through a novel you’ve been trying to read for months.
Social Butterfly
Can you remember the last time you had a night off with some friends? It doesn’t take too much for you and your people to get together and have a good time. That much you do remember. Gather the troops and figure out what you guys would want to do one evening. Whether it’s hanging out and grabbing some appetizers or doing something a little more active, it’ll be nice to be social outside of playgroups for once.
Out to Dinner
There’s a new restaurant in town that all of your single friends have been frequenting. On the other hand you haven’t had a free moment to make yourself any dessert at the house. One night when you’re free, take yourself to an early (or late) dinner at a quiet, sexy restaurant. If you’re weird about sitting at a table alone, grab a chair at the bar, people watch and enjoy your time alone.
Solo Movie Date
There’s a movie that you have been wanting to see since the previews were out. But all the kids want to watch are Pixar films. One day when you’re alone, take yourself to see a suspense-filled, action-driven movie. It’ll only be about two to three hours. Have some fun.
Get Creative
Even if you aren’t the most crafty person, sometimes it’s good to let that side out. You may not really know what to do with paint, but if you went to an art class full of white canvases, you could very well get the idea. Plus, you can keep your work of art and maybe get it framed for the bedroom.
Shop Around
There are a pair of shoes that you have been pining for for at least a couple of seasons now. If you have a little bit of money stashed away and you haven’t bought yourself anything in awhile, maybe you can consider splurging on it. After all, you work hard enough from day-to-day, you deserve something nice.
Boarded Up
Vision boards are not just for the top of the year anymore. If you have a new goal in mind or you see things that you would like to change for your future, there isn’t a much better way to start than making a vision board. It’s important to visualize the things you see for yourself and your family, even if it is on a piece of cardboard. Grab some poster board or the back of a box and some old magazines then get to cutting and pasting.
