For some, music is what gets us through one more mile on the treadmill or pushes us to do a few more reps on our least favorite exercise machine. It provides that extra adrenaline we need when we’d much rather jump off of the elliptical machine after only a 5 minute workout. Our workout playlist is just as important as having water or a sports drink to quench our thirst.
Most workout playlists consist of upbeat tempos with powerful lyrics that create a temporary illusion that we actually don’t mind the pain of a workout out. From Beyonce’s bad a** lyrics to the Black Eyed Peas eclectic instrumentals, our workouts are a tad bit easier with the right music blasting in our iPods.
Looking for some new music to add to your workout playlist? Try these tunes that push you to go even harder.
Beyonce ‘Diva’
Producing songs that promote female empowerment, many women will have at least one Beyonce song on their workout playlist. Diva is a great song that empowers you, pumps you up and pushes you at the same time. The beat is hot and the lyrics even hotter.
Black Eyed Peas ‘Imma Be’
Their beats are addictive and meant to make you dance, so why wouldn’t you work out to a Black Eyed Peas song to get your adrenaline up. ‘Imma Be’ is fun and energy-packed; and energy is exactly what is required to make it through an intense workout. Even if you aren’t a big Black Eyed Peas fans, their songs are great for workouts.
T.I ‘Motivation’
Although somewhat of a mid-tempo beat, the title alone for T.I’s Motivation should grab you. The song’s lyrics push you while serving as your motivation to disregard the haters. Even if you don’t have haters, this song will make you wish you did, so they can hate on how fabulous you look after you’ve worked your butt off in the gym.
Outkast ‘Bombs Over Baghdad’
Although the majority of us have no idea what’s being said in the song, the beat is so insane (literally) that you’re pushed to the extreme. You can’t help but move rapidly to this fun action packed beat.
C+C Music Factory ‘Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)’
Take it back to the early 90’s with this song intended just for those who are sweating or want to sweat. So what, you may not ride to it in your car; but it’s definitely a great song to work out to…and make you sweat.
Kanye West ‘Stronger’
Your reminder that the extra mile on the treadmill won’t kill you but will instead make you stronger, Kanye West’s “Stronger’ is one of those mid-tempo, punk-inspired songs that empowers you but has a Hot beat that allows you to picture yourself strutting down a run-way. In addition, the rapper has other great songs to add to your workout playlist, for instance coincidentally titled, his song ‘Kanye’s Workout Plan’.
Rihanna ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’
Most would agree that this song is a great addition to your workout playlist. It has a great beat and suggests that you have fun; but Rihanna has others that are just as great to add to your playlist. ‘Hard’ featuring Jeezy, although different in beat, is somewhat motivational as it screams ‘I’m so hard’. Then there’s S.O.S., that’s fun and flirty; a great workout combination.
Destiny’s Child ‘Lose My Breath’
This song’s up-tempo, Hot beat is enough to make you lose your breath, in a good way. It’s full of energy and pushes you to keep going when you’re out of breath (no pun intended). The song, featured on Destiny’s Child, last collaborative album reached #1 on the Billboard charts and is worth adding to your workout playlist.
