Just like any other pet peeve, the “early bird” alarm clock can be your worst enemy if you dislike getting up in the morning for work. Plus your increased desire for caffeine only lasts for so long. The downside of going to a job you can or cannot tolerate is waking up and going through the morning routine. But there are ways for you to better prepare for the day ahead.
1. Go on a brisk walk/run before sunrise
You don’t have to be an exercise guru to know that walking is a healthy regimen, and great for physical endurance. Night owls can even reprogram themselves to wake up early as long as they get the recommended seven hours of sleep the night before. Ask your spouse or a friend to join you for a 30 minute to an hour walk, so you can start your day on the right foot. Even your child or dog can accompany you.
2. Morning drink of choice: herbal tea or a hot latte
A drink of choice for the average working individual could be a cup of coffee laden with sugar and vanilla creamery, but other healthy refreshments like herbal tea, water or a hot latte may be better for those looking to fuel physically and mentally. Start the morning right with a newspaper to take with you on the go.
3. Your muse can be an inspirational quote of the day, bible quote if you’re religious/spiritual or a favorite song
Some days, you may feel flustered over the things you need to get done. But even hard workers need a spiritual awakening to bring them back up to speed. You’ll be surprised how one’s inspirational quote, song or biblical message can transform your attitude.
4. Write out a to-do list
Not everyone has heightened memory functions, which is why it’s essential to keep an agenda to help you get through the day. It’s one less thing to worry about as you’re jotting down personal and professional tasks. It also helps in achieving goals in a timely fashion without having to feel like you’re at your wits end.
5. Exchange a few laughs with family and friends
There have been moments where you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed, and others have taken notice of your short-temper. Who wants to welcome you with open arms if you’re in a bad mood all the time? Surely not your coworkers. But changing your disposition with a few laughs with friends and family, can put a stop to your random mood swings.
6. Find comfort in an unfamiliar area
Do you work from home? Is there a space in your house that will take you out of your usual element? You can grow complacent working in a small claustrophobic room all day. You need to find comfort in another section of the house. Rebuild a new office space in a bright, spacious room full of windows so you can feel lively again!
7. Eat lots of energetic foods that are healthy for the body
At the height of rush hour, you probably don’t have time to enjoy your breakfast because you’re up against time constraints. You can snack on munchies and fast food meals to keep you full, but it’s only a minor boost. The importance of eating a well-balanced meal is having the essential super foods: nuts, whole grains, raisins fruit and water will give you the energy you need.
8. Discipline yourself to be more involved at work
Working in a highly stressful position is a lot for one person to muster: managing employees, dodging your boss and achieving your goals within a nine-to-five work week are all mentally and physically straining. But your progression is only determined by your level of focus and supreme work ethic.
9. Join in on radio show commentary on the way to work
Every morning you’re an avid listener of talk radio because you get to hear music and jump into some hot-button topics that are worth commenting on. If political matters or entertainment stories are your source for mindful conversation, it is perfect way to bounce back from fatigue.
10. Read a newspaper for mental stimulation
Not only do newspapers or magazines impact our lives, they promote mental stimulation. It keeps you informed on current events and may provide other useful information for your everyday life, like learning how to bake a soufflé or declutter your office space, for example. You can catch these in the morning, and all times of the day.
