BEST
1. Wide-legged pants – Yves Saint Laurent, God rest his fabulous soul, was the first designer make androgynous look Hot. Waist-fitted, wide-legs with a camisole is a super stylish look for the office.
2. Flesh tones – Give yourself a clean palette with natural tones. Remember—the darker the skin the lighter the tone. Dark skinned women look divine in white and cream.
3. African prints – As a wonderful way to pay homage to the motherland, while working modern cuts, this trend is a definite YES. We love love loves Osei-Duro.
4. An accent of armed service – Bomber jackets, aviator glasses and button up blazers add a bit of gangsta to the feminine dresser.
5. Over-sized funky jewelry – Erykah Badu has been rocking these for years and the fashion world finally sees the light. Tap into your inner hippy with beautiful pieces like this.
WORST
1. Dominatrix strapped up heels – Think Rihanna video. As edgy as you think they are, at the heart of it, momma is right…you look like a hooker.
2. Leggings as pants – This look was never, ever approved by any fashion council or designer but that doesn’t stop hundreds of women from letting it all hang out. Leggings under over-sized blouses are comfortable and look non-offensive/chic.
3. Gladiator sandals – Yeah, we said it. If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you too? That’s how horrendous these sandals have gotten. If you must rock them, keep the straps to a minimum.
We like, for the sophisticated madame.
4. Fedoras – It’s not that they’re not stylish and cool—because they are. They’re just a bit over done. Other cool hats are lightweight crochet berets, large sunhats and vintage tulle hats like Madame Gabrielle Union’s.
