How to Get Over a Bad Breakup

No matter how hard you try, sometimes relationships just aren’t intended to have a happily ever after. People cheat, lie, steal and do other things that compromise much needed trust to continue. Then there are times when you just grow apart. Regardless of how it ends, here are some pointers that will help you get over a bad breakup.

Analyze what happened

Take a little bit of time to think over your relationship, what transpired and how it ended. Is there anything you can learn from your time with your former flame? Try to find nuggets of truth you can apply to your next relationship.

Ready your anthem

There’s a reason why we relate to so many singers. Scroll through your music library and start looking for those songs that really speak to both your situation and soul. Ain’t no shame in having an anthem to help get you through this difficult time.

Take time to grieve

It’s okay to cry, be angry and work through your emotions. After all, you invested time and energy into a relationship that didn’t work. Take time to grieve your relationship, but make sure you don’t spend too much time concentrating on the past.

Start journaling

Venting to friends is fine and all, but after a while, they might get tired hearing about the same old thing. This is one of the reasons why you might want to consider a journal. Not only can you look over previous entries and how far you’ve come, but have a resource that allows you to put everything you feel to paper.

Remove reminders

Gir, it’s time to get that box or trash can ready, you have some cleaning to do. Get rid of any and all reminders that will make you think back to your relationship. This can include photos and gifts…should you not want them of course.

Stay off social media

Please don’t use and abuse your social media. Break ups have a way of making people rant like no other, and post business that shouldn’t be for the public eye.

Release some much needed frustration by hitting the gym or participating in a fun workout. Not only will you snatch your figure but also get a chance soak up much needed endorphins (natural stress relievers).

Don’t rebound

While dating and one-night stands might satisfy a physical need, don’t expect them to fill the emotional void you’re feeling. Jumping into another relationship too soon after a breakup can have you carrying over unnecessary baggage.

You might be tempted to check in on your ex to see what they’re doing or how they’re coping with the break up.

For starters, you might not like what you see. It’s also not healthy to stay attached when you’re trying to move on with your life.

Focus on bettering yourself

Now that you have extra time to yourself, focus on being the best version of you. A little self-improvement never hurt anyone and can make you stronger both in life, career and future relationships.

Switch up your routine

Now might be the time to change up a few things in your life. Rather than fall into the same old habits, switch up your routine. You can try out a new hobby, take on a new task at work–just try something different.

Remind yourself life isn’t over

For whatever reason many of us think the world is going to end when we experience a break up. Do yourself a favor and place your hand over your heart. So long as it’s still beating, you have another opportunity to live and wipe the slate clean.

Sure, some people find their way back to each other, but for right now, you and your beau broke up for a reason. Don’t go back as it can prohibit you from moving on and growing.
