Your partner gets to know you better when they get to know your vagina better, so shouldn’t you get to know a bit more about your lady parts too? Here are 15 fun facts about your vajayjay that you didn’t know.
What do you call several vaginas?
In the rare instance that you do refer to more than one vagina, the proper term is actually vaginae.
Vaginae aren’t created equally
Actually, just like the penis, the vagina varies in size. The average vagina is between 2.5 and 3 inches wide, and 3.5 inches long.
Pubic hair eventually stops growing
Your pubic hair won’t just grow and grow. The hair on your vagina only grows to a certain point before falling out and being replaced.
You don’t have to clean it as thoroughly as you think
The vagina cleans itself and douching can in fact interrupt its natural self-cleaning process.
You can’t lose anything up there
Don’t worry: If a condom comes off during sex, it can’t float up to your stomach. The opening of the cervix is pretty much only large enough to allow sperm to get through.
Vaginas and sharks have something in common
The vagina contains a lubricant called squalene, which also exists in a shark’s liver.
Lube is lube
Your vagina produces two distinct types of lubrication: one that is produced during arousal, and the other is discharge.
Your weight and your vagina
Believe it or not, your weight can affect the appearance of your vagina. Carrying too much excess weight can cause the vagina to sag.
That fish smell
You may believe that having a vagina with a “fishy” smell is normal, but it is not. This is the result of an infection called bacterial vaginosis.
Going underwear free
If people tell you it’s unsanitary to go commando, they’re wrong. In fact, going panty-less is a good way to avoid a funny smell down there and it allows your business to breathe.
Booze and your sex life
Think alcohol makes for good sex? Think again. It can cause your va-jay-jay to smell funny.
The only thing that can come out is a baby, right?
In 2009, a woman donated a kidney by way of her vagina. Instead of making an incision to remove the organ, the doctor simply pulled it out from down below…
Vaginal orgasms
If you struggle to have a vaginal orgasm (as opposed to a cl*toral one) you’re not alone: Only about 30 percent of women have vaginal orgasms.
Deeper is not better
Actually, the first inch or two of the inside of your vagina is the most sensitive.
The vagina with teeth
Sure, horror stories and short films have been made about vaginaes with teeth, but those don’t actually exist, right? Wrong. A cyst containing everything from hair to teeth can travel down into the vagina. Those teeth won’t really bite anybody, but still, talk about creepy!
