Love in Hollywood is a tricky, tricky thing. As if the everyday pressures of being in a relationship weren’t hard enough, adding the craziness and drama of 24/7 tabloid coverage brings even healthy relationships to their breaking point. And let’s not forget the inevitable affair rumors. “Side chicks” and mistresses have become a staple of celebrity news. And while sometimes the rumblings are true, there are more than a few Hollywood hotties who have refuted the rumors — or refused to fess up. Here’s a look at notable celebrity women who denied being mistresses.
Mya
The most recent celebrity stunner to reject rumblings of an affair is singer Mya. As rumors began to swirl of Jay-Z possibly cheating on Beyonce, a blind item was posted hinting it was the “Lady Marmelade” songstress. The post also alleged that Mya has been living off of Hova’s and several other men’s cash in recent years. Mya was quick to respond, writing on Instagram: “Never did, never was, never will. Illegitimate, thirsty sources with no facts and that’s the ‘media’ for you-especially today. I play second to no one, pay my own bills, have my own label, own management company, rely on God only and respect myself & marriage too much for nonsense.”
Alicia Keys
One of the most notable love triangles in recent memory involved the ridiculously talented Alicia Keys, her current husband Swizz Beatz, and his former wife Mashonda. Keys largely ignored any insinuations that she had broken up the couple’s marriage and said that it took a long time for her to become smitten with Swizz (telling Marie Claire UK: “Honestly, I didn’t really like him that much. I though he was ostentatious. He’ll drive the fastest, brightest car, wear the biggest jewelry, the loudest jacket; everything with him is really over the top.”). Mashonda didn’t keep silent for long. She was vocal about her belief that Keys and Swizz had been getting down and dirty while the couple was still married. The three have ultimately become more civil toward each other, but a possible “homewrecker” cloud still hangs over Keys.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had known each other for years, but it wasn’t until 2011 that rumors really began to fly that the two were more than friends. But what seemed like a fateful joining of two self-absorbed people who were probably always meant for each other, was a far more sordid tale if you ask Amber Rose. She was fast out of the gate to accuse Kardashian of actively pursuing West while he was still in a relationship with Rose. Rose went on the offensively quickly, calling Kardashian a homewrecker and explaining how she had sent photos of herself to West. Kardashian gave the handwave to Rose’s assertions, never validating the claims with a public statement.
Amber Rose
Amber Rose may have been dishing it out when she accused Kim Kardashian of sleeping with her man, Kanye West, while the two were still in a relationship, but Rose had some shade being thrown her way as well. The model and actress was accused repeatedly of breaking up Kardashian and then-beau Reggie Bush. Though Rose would insist that she began dating Bush AFTER he had broken up with Kim K., maybe we can all learn one, distinct lesson: People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Abbie Cornish
Our first instance of an on-set love connection, Abbie Cornish and Ryan Phillippe were drawn together while co-starring in the film “Stop-Loss.” Only problem: He was married to pre-drunken ridiculousness Reese Witherspoon — cue the drama! While Cornish was smart enough to not deny the claims (as she and Phillippe would carry on their relationship for quite some time), she did fall back on the tried and true “it was a difficult time for me” explanation in an interview with W Magazine. It may not be a denial, but drumming up a little sympathy never hurts to push back on “other woman” bashing.
Sienna Miller
Let’s just get this out of the way: Sienna Miller is one of the great “other women” of our time. She has been involved in more love triangles than most top-tier celebrities and more importantly shows virtually no care or concern for her actions. While on the one hand absolutely deplorable, there is a small, tiny piece of us that is sort of impressed by her rather cavalier, hand-waving dismissal of her actions. In fact, she actually lamented to Style Magazine about the hateration thrown her way from women: “We say we want to be equal, but men don’t sit around bitching at each other. There’s no sisterhood.”
LaLa Vasquez
Though, according to initial reports, Kevin Garnett put LaLa Vasquez on blast by shouting out his infamous “Honey Nut Cheerios” line, Vasquez insisted that wasn’t what Garnett actually said to her husband Carmelo Anthony. She wrote in her book: “Kevin Garnett in fact had never said that I tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios. I tried to figure out how this big lie was turned into a media firestorm. I still can’t answer that one. … Melo and Kevin are cool today. And now it’s nothing but a faint memory.’’ MN readers: Believe it or not?
Olivia Munn
In the grand scheme of things Olivia Munn’s transgression pales in comparison to some of Hollywood’s more recent love triangles. But nonetheless, Munn was still adamant that her sin was done in the dark (pun intended). Though Justin Timberlake was in a relationship with future wife Jessica Biel at the time, when Munn met the singer in 2010 at a MySpace event he said that he was flying solo. Allegedly a torrid, three-day affair ensued, but as soon as Munn discovered JT’s little lie, she cut it off. Though rumors continued to swirl about some text message exchanges, Munn’s refusal to engage with the booed-up hottie dashed any “other woman” talk.
Kenya Moore
There was virtually no way we were making our way through this list without getting at least one reality show vixen involved. So we present to you Ms. Kenya Moore. One of the stars of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Moore found herself at the center of controversy when Apollo Nida, husband to fellow-Housewives Pheadra Parks accused Moore of propositioning him. Moore came out swinging, denying the accusations and saying that any communication between the two had been initiated by Nida and they were not sexual in nature. Don’t mess with a former beauty queen!
Jennifer Lopez
Not exactly the most well-known instance of possible other woman-dry, but still notable nonetheless. Jennifer Lopez has had her fair share of high-profile beaus, but it was her reunion with Marc Anthony that really sent tabloids into a tizzy. Just one week after Puerto Rican crooner Marc Anthony and his then-wife, Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres divorced, Anthony popped the question to J. Lo with an 8.5-carat engagement ring, causing speculation that the two had been making music together while he was still married. Sometimes silence is the best answer and J. Lo kept mum on the situation, not paying any attention to “other woman” chatter.
Rachel Uchitel
“I work in clubs, and I am a businesswoman. I do not have sex with celebrities, and I have not had an affair with Tiger Woods.” Rachel Uchitel made this statement to the NY Post as the media circus that was Tiger Woods’ downfall began in 2009. Uchitel, a nightclub hostess, was the first of many women who would be dragged into Woods’ sordid drama. But unlike many of the women after her, Uchitel was adamant in the press about her innocence. However after Woods paid Uchitel millions in a confidentiality agreement (which she was ultimately forced to give back) and her affair with married actor David Boreanez surfaced, homegirl’s innocence definitely starts getting called into question.
Angelina Jolie
Is there really much that needs to be said here? There was no denying that Angelina Jolie was the other woman — just ask Jennifer Aniston. But she has CLEARLY shown that her relationship with Brad Pitt was way more than an on-set fling. Her actions have spoke louder than words and by not engaging in any back and forth tabloid bickering has shown as much respect to Aniston as she possibly could — you know, after stealing her husband.
