Thankfully there are organizations out there that are trying to help. Sure we can’t make everything go away but we can do the best to our ability to help out. By now everyone should have seen the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls around social media, a demand that aims to keep awareness going about the nearly 300 Nigerian girls that were abducted from their school last month and to spur governments to do something about it. The Human Rights Watch works both nationally and internationally to help protect the rights of all people. Non-partisan, this non-profit raises awareness and solutions to problems that include international justice, terrorism, and the environment among others. In response to the Nigerian abductions, they are urging people to sign a petition that will push the local government and other officials to do more for a swift and safe rescue.

Action Against Hunger
Serving more than seven million people each year is Action Against Hunger with the mission to save those malnourished while teaching self-sufficiency. With an estimated 4,000 children dying each day from poor hygienic conditions and poor water, they provide assistance and emergency response to people in over 40 countries.

Doctors Without Borders
As much as healthcare in this country can suck, at least we have the option of providers and places like emergency rooms and clinics available. “It’s simple really: go where the patients are,” says founder Bernard Kouchner. Doctors Without Borders is a financially independent organization that travels the world to treat millions of patients who otherwise might not have adequate access to medical treatment.

Did you know 30 million people are trapped in the modern-day slave trade? It’s a $32 billion dollar industry that happens both here in the United States and abroad. Not for Sale works to end human trafficking and create a world where people are not for sale. They are currently working in Bangalore to help prevent 80,000 children living on the street from being exploited.

Working in the trenches of the toughest places on Earth is Mercy Corps, who without fear enter countries like Congo, Sudan and Afghanistan to provide assistance. Almost 90 percent of funds received go towards emergency response, assisting farmers and securing small business loans for women.
