A few weeks ago, some Real Housewives of Atlanta viewers were a little shocked by actress/cast member Nene Leakes’s admittance of turning down million dollar roles.  The implication was that she felt that they were beneath her, not saying that that’s what she was trying to say, but that’s how some took it.

Now, maybe she’s right to do so.  Like Denzel Washington revealed, people can throw a lot of money at you for roles that are horrible, and that could possibly stop your career in the future.  Also, having an ego, even a big one isn’t bad.  Having a big ego can encourage us to follow dreams, promotions, and opportunities that are rare.

However, too big of an ego can hinder us.  Here are 14 signs your ego is out of control:

You Think You Have All the Answers

Now no one knows everything, and even if some of your favorite successful people have dropped out of college, or high school they definitely made up by studying the field that they’re trying to be successful in.  Everyone has room to grow, and opportunities to enlarge their knowledge in their given fields.

You Tell People They Are Beneath You

If you’re bold enough to tell someone that not only are they not on your level, but that they are completely beneath you, you need an ego check.

You Think that Others are Out to Get You

During the time of you putting your bad decisions out on other people, if you think that others have a conspiracy to bring you down is a little narcissistic.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some horrible people in the world, but sometimes, its not everyone else, it’s our bad decisions.

You See Yourself through Perpetual Rose-colored Glasses

There’s not an issue of having good self-esteem, but if you see yourself constantly in the right, or as the perpetual victim, then your sight might be out of whack.  Take off those rose-colored glasses, and see yourself for how you are so you can become a better you.

You Ignore Rules

You Ignore Rules

No matter how much of an innovator that you think you are, in any field there are still parameters that you have to adhere to.  If you think that the rules that everyone else has to follow is beneath you then that’s indicative that you think you are above everyone else.

You Laugh at Other’s Misfortunes

Now, I’m not talking about a small slip and fall that makes you cackle (it’s mean, but…), I’m talking about finding joy in others’ downfall.  That type of enjoyment by watching someone else struggle is almost admitting that you are better than them.

You Have a Large Sense of Entitlement

You Have a Large Sense of Entitlement

No one in this world owes you anything.  Yes, you would like for people to help, but outside of your family, no one is obligated to you.  If you think that the world owes you anything other than respect then you’re out of line.
