When the temperatures hit the negatives earlier this month in some regions, many of us were forced to stay indoors rather than brave the weather. The winter months can have you spending quite a bit of time at home and possibly developing cabin fever! Rather than go stir crazy, here are a few tips to get you through.

Work on Your Craft

If you are a writer, artist, singer, or any other creative, being stuck at home is a great time to work on your craft. Finally sit down and map out your next projects or even better – finish one. Pitch some ideas, utilize social media marketing and really get your work out there. If you’ve ever been curious about tapping into your craft, you can use this time to get started and explore.

Adventure Time

If you have small children in the home and need to keep them occupied, create an adventure. This also keeps you pretty busy too. Build a fort, tell a story and dress up as the characters, design a scavenger hunt with clues, or anything that will let them use their imagination rather than just watching TV or playing video games.

Work Out

You can still get in a great work out at home. Scan the hashtags online (such as #homeworkouts or #fitness) or a simple Google search will give you all types of creative ideas to do when you can’t get to the gym. Burn off the excess energy and those extra pounds you gain sitting still all day.

Keep In Touch

Have you called your Aunt lately? What about sending that email to your mentor? We all get super busy and can’t keep in touch like we used to. Pick up the phone, email or text someone that you’ve not kept in touch with like you should. Spread the love. Fair warning, however, tread lightly when it comes to contacting exes. Nobody really enjoys Marvin’s Room.

Cooking with Caution

The temptation when you are all snowed in is to binge eat all of your snacks out of sheer boredom. Don’t! Cook up new meals and try some great new experiments, but keep it on the healthy side. Limit yourself to how many of your snacks you are eating every day and substitute fruits or veggies when you can.

Get your money right

Most of us never really dig into our finances except around tax time and to check the balance. If you are one of those people, use this free time to double check those statements for any lingering membership fees, charges, and outstanding balances. You never know when this might save you money long term. While you’re at it, establish a good budget and research “residual income” – it’s time for your money to start making you money too!

Meditate and Relax

Although too much relaxing feels like it might drive you insane, if you are always on the go, now is the time to rest. Enjoy these times that allow you to just sleep a bit later and really recharge your body. Meditate on your next steps and start envisioning great things for your life.
