After the holidays, forward thinking mesdames can find themselves in a holding pattern.  We’re living through the last little bit of this year, but ready for the next one.  Don’t let the final hours of 2010 become a stalemate before you start on your resolutions.  Instead, make the best of it and wind down your year feeling good.

1. Finish those sweets in your fridge

As every magazine cover has some variation of ‘how to lose those ten pounds,’ it can be easy  to get caught up trying to half start a diet.  My take? Don’t.  A few more 2010 calories are not the end of the world, enjoy the leftover cakes, puddings and pies from your family dinners instead of semi punishing yourself now.

2. Revamp your beauty routine

For a quick way to find a fresh look, all you need is a simple visit to your neighborhood drugstore.  The key? Shoot to try a different formula in the staples you normally use.  In love with your pencil eyeliner?  Try a gel.  Love powder blush?  Try a crème base instead.  The swaps will be small but they will give your look an early kickstart.

3. Catch a cat nap

When the work weeks were bustling, you wanted nothing more than to get one more hour of sleep.  Now that you’re snowed in, why not get it?  Sure there’s a million errands you could run in the time it takes for a nap, but be sure to take some time to get truly rested.

4. Escape to a whole new world

So many women have a list of the books they need to get through in the new year.  Use the long weekends and downtime to begin the stories you’ve been wondering about.  With the spare time you can probably get through a novel before the first week of the year.

5. Find a new spot

Every woman needs a place where she can go and get into her zone.  With the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers, some of the best quiet corners are up for grabs.  Find a new favorite coffee shop, museum lobby or town library to settle in and call your second home.

6. Whip something up in the kitchen

With all the baking for the holidays, there is bound to be leftover ingredients in your fridge.  Instead of saving them for the next time you go to make baked goods, try to use them to nourish your strands with your own homemade remedies.

7. Do the sloppy bun

I’m a huge advocate of the sloppy bun and over-sized sweat top and hope in the next few days other women can get down with the trend.  For many of us, its hard to sit still without worrying about the next day and mapping out the next few years, but challenge yourself to spend 24 hours in total vegging out mode.  It’s been a long year- you deserve it!
