When you look back over this past year you’ve got to give it to yourself, you ran around, made moves, raised your kids, took care of your man, and outperformed everybody at your job. But while you met everyone else’s needs, you forgot to take care of numero uno. It sounds selfish but if you don’t take the time to nourish yourself now, you’ll burn out later. A trip to the spa would be the perfect treat for work well done. While you’re there be sure to check out these services.
Free your mind and the rest will follow. Your masseuse may be talented but she can’t deal with all the junk in there; but with a hair and scalp massage she can get pretty close. This treatment can go from pretty basic (no oils, just your hair and scalp) to intense with the use of botanical oils and the inclusion of your neck and shoulders.
Pedicure
While you’re getting your head right don’t forget the other end. Pamper the feet that carried you to all those meetings, held up during that extended night of clubbing, and climbed all those stairs. You may be thinking, “I can get a pedicure anywhere.” You’re right but the spa pedicure is a bit more meticulous. How many times have you left the nail shop feeling like they missed a patch of dry skin? A good spa pedicure will treat the calluses, include a cleansing and a lower leg and foot massage.
Couple’s Spa Treatment
You’re not the jealous type, so you won’t mind some other woman rubbing on your man… as long as you’re cuter than her. Despite the other people in the room, a couple’s massage will relax you both simultaneously and foster closeness.
Balinese Massage
If you’d like to make this spa experience all about you this time, ditch the boo and indulge in the balinese massage. This technique features kneading strokes and skin rolling. After the massage you’ll be covered in coconut oil. Yum!
Hot Oil Treatment
No more burning yourself trying to do your own hot oil treatment, let the professionals handle it. At the spa you can have your hair conditioned and strengthened Not only will the oil invigorate your hair, the olive, sweet almond, and jojoba oils will relax the muscles in your head.
Hot Stone Massage
If you’re looking to reconnect to the earth, the hot stone technique is for you. Stone varying in temperature are placed strategically on the body, increasing blood flow and thereby stretching the muscles.
Cover yourself in something to make you feel delicious. Body wraps can be a combination of algae, seaweed, mud, or clay that come in a variety of delectable flavors. The concoction is smeared all over. Once you’re covered, the massage therapist will wrap your body for a few minutes while the mixture seeps into your skin. Afterward it will be rinsed off and lotion will be applied to your body.
Vaginal Steam Bath
This ancient Korean technique, recently introduced in the United States, is taking many by storm. (Any form of the word vagina throws people off.) During the steam bath treatment, or chai-yok, a woman sits on an open-seated stool over a boiling pot of various herbs. Chai-yok claims to relieve menstrual cramps, rid the body of toxins, and help with fertility. The treatment is currently available in Southern California and New York. If you’re a lady on one of these coasts and your lady down there needs some extra heat in her life, check it out!
Skin Revitalizing Facials
You can’t leave the spa without getting a facial! This popular procedure cleanses, exfoliates, and extracts excess dirt from your face. Then moisturizers are placed back into the skin. Whether you get yours professionally or do it over your bathroom sink, make sure you have a facial four times a year, whenever the seasons change.
Back Facials
Out of sight does not mean out of mind when it comes to your skin. Just because you can’t always see your back skin, doesn’t mean it should be forgotten. Back facials can be particularly helpful for those of us with “backne.” Just like regular facials, the procedure removes impurities from your skin, unclogging your pores and reducing the occurrence of acne.
