An afro offers more than just one look. Sure the Angela Davis style is powerful and gorgeous, but it’s not the only way to rock the fro. Check out all these fun things that you can do with your hair!

Natural and free
Of course your first and most obvious choice is  to rock your afro just as it is in all its natural beauty and grace.  Massage in your favorite oils and conditioners to get it looking and feeling just right.

Updo
Whether your hair texture is cushy cotton or closer to cascading ringlets, you can rock an updo that is equal parts elegant and stunning. Use a scarf to wind around your hair to create this look or use clips/bobby pins.

Sparkle
Put some hair glitter in your fro to liven things up a bit. No need to go overboard. Add just enough so that your hair sparkles just so in the right light.  It’s the perfect touch for a night out with the girls.

Headband
Your hair is fabulous and all, but sometimes it needs a little help staying out of your face. Mesh the practical with the stylish by using eye-catching headbands! You don’t have to stick to the big doofy plastic ones in the drugstore. Try different colors, materials and widths.  Online destinations like Etsy are great places to find cool, affordable, handmade accessories.

Side Puff
Side ponytails, no matter the texture, always add a little sass. Use discreetly placed pins and clips to secure your hair and create this look. Might take a little time to get it just right, but the practice will be worth it.

Dainty Accessories
Afros are so soft and cuddly, it makes sense to adorn them with pretty, dainty things like pearls and feathers.  Try it!

Pulled back
Let your face be the star by pulling your hair to the back of your head. You can go straight to the back or create a puff at the nape of your neck. Either way,  you will be ready for your close-up.  Use clips, a scarf or a heavy duty rubberband that is free of metal (that stuff will snag in your hair).

Add some color
Get a professional to cut and color your fro. Maybe you want some highlights, maybe you want a dramatic all over color change. Get whatever suits your fancy and complements your skin tone and face shape. Once done, your hair will be a sight to behold!

Little bit of cornrows, whole lot of fro
It’s possible that you haven’t had cornrows since you were a little girl sitting in between your mama’s legs. Take it back to the old school…well, at least halfway. Use cornrows to add a little something extra to your fabulous fro.

Hair clips
A lot of times, hair clips and combs are your hidden helpers, but sometimes you should let them out to play. Get your Billie Holliday on once in a while.
