Call him obsessively

Say yes to the date, but set it at least a few days down the line. In the meantime, call him to tell him every single thing that crosses your mind. Call him in the morning so he can analyze your dreams, call him crying three times a day over something totally insignificant, call him so he can help you pick out what drink to order at Starbucks. Your faux crazy will suddenly make him far less interested.

Demand very expensive dates

Suggest only outrageously expensive places. If they are places where you need to make reservations three months in advance, even better. Turn down all of his other suggestions. If he tells you he can’t afford it, tell him if he really cared about you he’d find a way to make it work and that that’s just the standard of living you’re used to.

Ask him to make a dozen changes

Agree to the date, but ask if he can get a decent pair of pants first. And have him go shopping and send you pictures of the pants, and disapprove of all of them. Ask him to shave his head, or get a toupee. Ask him to get a facial peel.

Invite him to your Pilates class

Tell him that “a couple who works out together stays together” and that you do sunrise yoga every morning, and a spin class during lunch and Pilates every night. Oh, and if he cares about you he’ll take proper care of his body and taking those classes is the only way to.
