Every year, the great souls around us retire to heaven, and we bid them adieu. As we leave this year, we honor and remember all of those who said goodbye in 2010.

1. Gary Coleman

An American actor, known for his height, and his childhood acting role as “Arnold” in ‘Diff’rent Strokes.’ Died in May of 2010, after life-long hospital experiences with kidney transplants and seizures. May he rest in peace.

2. Leslie Nielsen

An incredibly well-known comedic actor, who died from pneumonia complications in November. May he rest in peace.

3. Rue McClanahan

A thoroughly loved actress, known from the sitcom “Golden Girls.” Died June 3, 2010, at the age of 76, after she suffered another stroke. May she rest in peace.

4. Teddy Pendergrass

An R&B/Soul singer who influenced too many artists to name in the music industry. First rose to fame as lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s. Died of respiratory in January of 2010. May he rest in peace.

5. Dennis Hopper

The famously versatile actor, filmmaker and artist who will be missed. Died in May 2010 of prostate cancer. May he rest in peace.

6. Lena Horne

Legendary soul singer, who touched many of our lives. Iconic actress, civil rights activist and dancer who lived to age 92. Died in May of 2010. May she rest in peace.

7. Alexander McQueen

British fashion designer adored by the fashion world. Died of suicide by hanging, this February 2010. May he rest in peace.

8. Margaret Taylor-Burroughs

Prominent African-American artist and writer and a co-founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History. Died in November of 2010. May she rest in peace.

9. Elizabeth Edwards

Attorney, best-selling author and health-care activist, adored by those who marched alongside her causes. Died in December of 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
