Aretha Franklin Is An Apollo Legend
Aretha Franklin is finally getting her R.E.S.P.E.C.T. from The Apollo Theater. On June 14th, The Queen of Soul will be inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame. Other honorees have included James Brown and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
It’s been an awesome year for Franklin, having received a doctorate of music degree from Yale University last month.
“We know royalty when we see it, and you are, without question, the Queen of Soul,” Yale President Richard C. Levin said in his introduction of the singer. “A natural woman, you have been signing your whole life, learning the grace of gospel from family and faith community, tuning it with your own sometimes painful, often joyful, experiences, and creating a signature style that transcends any one musical genre.”
Congrats Ms. Franklin!
