It’s the time of year when holiday parties are prevalent. Whether you like your job and your co-workers or not (that’s another story), it’s almost an un-written obligation to attend your company’s holiday party. So what will you wear to ensure that you’re not over-doing it but still stylish enough to demonstrate your personal style outside of those four walls you call work?

While no one ever really says what you can or cannot wear to a holiday party, there are a few dos and don’ts to consider. Although it’s not actually at your office, it’s still a work function equipped with all of your co-workers, your boss, and possibly your boss’ boss. So with that in mind, the underlying rule is to keep it professional.

DO consider wearing a dress. They’re easy and come in many styles for holiday parties. If your holiday party is super casual, opt for a jersey dress or something with a sweater material. If your holiday party is semi-formal, even better! There are plenty of materials and styles to choose from.

DON’T forget the shoes! So you’ve found the perfect dress. It’s not too short, not too tight, but Hot and stylish nonetheless. You look professional but also as if you have some style. Don’t throw off the look with the wrong pair of shoes. Wearing shoes that are too casual with a semi-formal dress is a no-no. Or what’s even worse is wearing shoes that are suggestively too Hot. Make sure your shoes compliment your attire.

DON’T over-do it with make-up. The holiday party may not be the best place to show off your new MAC collection of colors. Keep make-up simple as you do at work. It’s okay to add a little more color for extra holiday flair; but keep it simple.

DO accessorize. Bracelets, necklaces, and other accessories always add flair to any ensemble. Just make sure you keep it to a minimum. An arm full of your favorite bangles is probably inappropriate for you holiday party.
