The new year is coming soon, which means a clean slate for your goals and dreams. Looking for something to “do” to start the new year off right? Make a vision board! Some people say that a vision board is a magnet for all the good things you want for yourself. The idea is that you put your goals on the board and those things become a reality. To find out if that’s true, you’ll have to make one yourself and luckily, vision boards are fun and easy to create. Join as I walk you through the construction of my vision board.

There are many ways to make a vision board, some people even make them online, this is just one way to do it. Before you start your vision board, here are a few supplies you’ll need. Project: Vision Board Time: 30 minutes to an hour Skill Level: Beginner
Supplies: Cork board Stack of magazines Scissors Glue Tacks
Optional Supplies: Pretty paper (same size as the cork board) Small embellishments (paper flowers, stickers, etc) Picture of yourself
Tips 1. Select magazines that are related to your interests or aspirations. 2. Pretty much all the supplies necessary to make a vision board can be found at any office supply or craft store.

Step 1: Envision your vision board Selecting which images to use on a vision board can be a daunting task. Make it easier for yourself by organizing your board into sections. I have chosen Love (romantic and otherwise), Health/Beauty, Finances and Career.

Step 2: Select your images Use your sections as guides for which images to choose. Pile up your clippings by each section. Don’t be afraid to use text. My vision board is rather wordy because I like words. It’s your vision board, put on it whatever you want. This can be the most time-consuming part of making a vision board depending on how carefully you select your images. Tips 1. Select images and words that will make you smile when you see them 2. Think big! 3. Cut more images than you think you’ll need. Give yourself options.

Step 3: Attach the pretty paper to the cork board This step is only necessary if you use the optional paper in lieu of applying images directly to the cork board. I like to use paper because I can just tack it onto the board, fill it up and easily take off the paper when I’m ready for a new vision board. I chose a golden paper because I’m living my life like it’s golden. Tip If you are placing your vision board images on paper, save the papers! Use them to track your changing goals and accomplishments over the years.

Step 4: Fill up your vision board! Glue your clippings where you would like to have them on your board. If you use a picture of yourself, place it in the middle of the board, so that you are surrounded by all your lovely goals. I put “love” in every section of my board because I want love in all of those areas of my life. Tips 1. Place the images on the board without glue at first to get an idea of where you want them. 2. Pick a clear recent picture of yourself with a big confident smile.

Step 5: Add the little extras Have any stickers, miniature signs or any other little non-magazine extras? Now is the time to add those. I chose green and purple paper flowers with brass brads.
