There is something special about feminine energy. We don’t have much in the way of awesome girl groups these days, but we used to have a bunch! Take a stroll down memory lane as we revisit some of our favorite girl groups.

Salt n’ Pepa
“Yo, yo, yo baby pops! Yeah you! Come and give me a kiss.” How could you not love a group with lyrics like these? Besides providing girl power anthems and dance routines that were copied in school yards across the country, Salt n’ Pepa were also style trailblazers. Pepa was one of the first (if not the first) women to rock the asymmetrical half-shaved head look.
En Vogue
En Vogue was unusual because all of the members could actually sing. Each one of them have taken the lead on various hits throughout the years. Much love to the “Funky Divas.”
Oaktown’s 357
MC Hammer’s girl group represented Oakland to the fullest. They danced so hard in those videos, right? Also can’t forget about B Angie B who had a prominent spot in “Juicy Gotcha Krazy.” Gotta love it.
Brownstone
This mid 90’s group, who was signed to Michael Jackson’s record label by the way, was only around for a hot minute, but they could really blow. Their 1995 single “If You Love Me” was a monster.
TLC
These “Crazy, Hot, Cool” ladies pretty much owned the ‘90s. They racked up a ton of awards and Billboard hits. Their tomboyish Hot steez was inescapable. We miss you Left Eye!
Destiny’s Child
Somehow, even through out multiple line-up changes, Destiny’s Child continued to crank out hits on every album. Love them or hate them, you know at least three Destiny’s Child songs by heart.
SWV
SWV was the epitome of the ‘90s music era and fashion. They loved the biker shorts, bra tops, outrageously long nails and bright colors. Also, their songs were very prom-friendly, so many adolescent memories were made to their hits.
JJ Fad
JJ Fad was something of a one hit wonder with their song “Supersonic.” The song didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it was catchy and fun to dance to in front of the mirror.
L’Trimm
You youngins might know anything about this group. L’Trimm was a true blue one hit wonder. They made “Cars With The Boom” in the late ‘80s and it was a huge urban hit. Is it just us or did these Miami-bred ladies (Tigra and Bunny) sound like they had New York accents?
Zhane
The ’90s were full of girl groups and duos and one of them as Zhane. You remember “Hey Mr. DJ,” right?
The Supremes
Of course we can’t forget about the ultimate girl group. The Supremes provided the blueprint for everyone else who came after them.
