If you’ve even just listened to what other people had to say about Nas’s last album, “Life is Good,” you’d know the 39-year-old rapper’s life wasn’t sounding too great without his ex-wife Kelis in his life. Songs like “Bye Baby” aired out a lot of the drama that went down between the pair, and interestingly after he dropped those tracks, he was seen out with Kelis an awful lot.
All of those dinner dates paparazzi caught had people speculating that the two were back together, but Nas says that’s not the case — although he did lowkey try to get back with his ex. Check out what he told Angie Martinez during his interview with Hot 97:
“We’re back together as friends. We were not the best of friends for a long time. We’re friends now and that’s what it is. We’re not together but we’re friends though.”
Talking about how Kelis responded to him using her wedding dress for his album cover and her respect for his creativity as an artist, Nas added:
“She handled it like a trooper. I even said, ‘yo, should we try this again?’ I’m like wow. We had all kinds of talks. You know how that is. We have a child. But we’re friends and I’m glad to be at that place. I don’t want no beef. No beef wit ya mama.”
Friends is actually a pretty big step for this couple who had a very rough separation and subsequent divorce between 2009 and 2010. They always say you should be friends first. Give them a couple more years and I bet we might hear wedding bells again.
