Some of you may know that our MN appointed “relationship expert,” Damon Young is also one half of the über popular blog, Very Smart Brothas.com. Well, one day I was just playing around on the internet when I stumbled across a post Damon wrote two years ago called, “10 Questions You’ve Always Wanted To Ask a White Person.”
Tres interessant! I know I’ve had questions for years. I read it. These were questions black people all over America have pondered time and time again. I loved it. Then, as if this internet gem couldn’t have shone any brighter, I found the responses, T.D. Hurst, a white guy, provided. Nice!
As a woman who hasn’t had close, white friends since high school, some of the answers were surprising, some funny and I finished the post a bit more informed. Then, because I moonlight as a thief, I thought this is something we can do for Madame Noire…except with white women.
So, during one of our weekly editorial meetings the MN editors came up with questions we’ve always wanted to ask white women, before we even knew which white women we were going to ask. And believe us, we kept it real. The whole point was for the conversation to be to honest and helpful.
Then came time to find the white women we wanted to ask. That’s where the women of The Frisky came in. I’ve been a fan of their site for a while now, so naturally I reached out. We e-mailed a couple of the editors to see if they’d be interested in not only answering our questions but asking some of their own as well. We heard back within the hour.
Initially, we were going to answer the questions and make this just a print post. But then Amelia of The Frisky said they were going to answer some of the questions in their weekly video. *Ding! Lightbulb moment.* We should do a video too…with the ladies of The Frisky. We worked out our schedules and met to shoot our first video in what will hopefully be an ongoing series: “I Always Wanted To Ask…”
Well we did that thang and a short version of the video will air on Madame Noire tomorrow, Tuesday, January 8th and then the full version will air on Wednesday, January 9th.
Check out a trailer for the series and get to know the women who will be featured in the video, the editorial staff of The Frisky and Madame Noire.

Amelia McDonell-Parry is the founding editor of The Frisky, which will be celebrating its 5th birthday in March 2013. When she isn’t busy blogging about her period, feminism, Ryan Gosling, and how much she hates online dating, you can find her having long conversations with her dog, failing at headstand in yoga, and drinking all the wine.
Brande Victorian is the Deputy Editor for Madame Noire and a New Yorker by way of Ohio. She is a ratchet reality TV aficionado and trap music extraordinaire who can, thankfully, put away the ratchetry when necessary to carry on intellectual conversations about race, women, and culture, with only a mild side of ratch — and possibly a rap lyric.
Jessica Wakeman has been an editor and writer at The Frisky for four years, where she blogs about feminist issues, pop culture, beauty and sex. She graduated from NYU and has been published in B itchMagazine, The New York Daily News, Cosmopolitan, and The New York Times Sunday Book Review, among many others. She loves Facebook memes involving pandas, hate-watching “American Horror Story,” and drinking too much Starbucks.

Veronica Wells has been the associate editor at Madame Noire for two years after interning with the site once she graduated from the University of Missouri. A Libra from Indianapolis, Veronica enjoys singing loudly, watching [bootleg] movies on her computer and analyzing twerk team videos on YouTube. She’s also striving to become the best version of herself, meaning she rationalizes her love for the above mentioned twerk videos and bootleg movies.
Julie Gerstein is the style editor of The Frisky, and has previously worked for TMZ, Us Weekly and Lemondrop (R.I.P.) Originally from the Philadelphia area, she enjoys traveling, dancing, eating and used to DJ. In her spare time, she ponders stuff like, “What will Kimye name their baby”? She lives in Brooklyn with her boyfriend and cat, Colonel Mustard.

Victoria Uwumarogie is the assistant editor for Madame Noire after starting with the site as a faithful reader and freelancer. She has been with this team of dynamic ladies for almost two years. Originally from the Chicago area, Victoria enjoys doing social media and writing for the site, reading, sleeping (she really, REALLY likes that), and getting to know New York a little better every day. She’s very excited to work with the ladies of The Frisky to hear their questions and thoughts on hot topics, and is eager to share her lovable ratchetness with them and the world.
Ami Angelowicz is a writer, teacher, lover of frosting, hater of cats, and a proud klutz. After graduating from NYU with a degree in theater, she burned through a couple of starter careers such as underpaid actress, psychology grad student, inner city high school teacher, and theater producer before discovering that what she really wanted to do most was write. This revelation eventually led her to TheFrisky.com, where she is the Sex & Relationships editor. She lives in Queens, the most undervalued borough.
