When it’s time to spend some time at home with friends and fam, these are the movies you play over and over again until you know half the words. We have 15 of our favorite hood classics here. If we missed your favorite, let us know in the comments section.

ATL

This movie was the moment when most of us found out that T. I. could act. But to me, Big Boi stole the show: “Ain’t nobody told ya’ll light skinned dudes ain’t in style no mo?” Classic.

Juice

You got the Juice? This was the movie back in the day. And Tupac went really hard: “I’m the one ya’ll need to be worried about. Patna.” Did you know he was just 21 when he starred in it? He should’ve won an Oscar for this. R.I.P.

Hustle and Flow

It’s hard out there for a pimp. They robbed Terrence Howard by not giving him an Oscar. That soundtrack was bangin’ though. Shout out to Three Six Mafia.

Friday

Miss Parker, Miss Parker. I laughed so hard the first time I saw this I thought something was gonna bust. “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next” also belong on this list. If Ice Cube is telling the truth about a fourth “Friday,” I’m sure that will be hilarious too, but Chris Tucker knows he needs to get in on this.

Belly

All of your favorite ’90s east coast rappers in one place. This movie was dark and beautiful and it’s one of my favorite hood movies to this day. And if you love east coast classics the soundtrack is one of the best out there.

Harlem Nights

“That n***a shot me in my pinky toe.” Man I love this movie. It has Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Della Reese, Eddie Murphy when he was still funny, and Charlie Murphy. This isn’t just a hood classic it’s a comedy classic.

American Pimp

You on the right track but the wrong train. You know we had to put at least one documentary on the list. And this Hughes Brothers classic is full of some of the coldest quotables in movie history. It put Bishop Don Magic Juan on the scene and put a real face to the game.

Training Day

Denzel playing the bad guy for once? You know every man and woman had to love the way he switched it up on us. We were trippin’ as bad as Ethan Hawke and we weren’t even in the movie!

House Party

If you’ve ever been to a house party in your life, you have to love this movie. Unfortunately, I still know how to do that dance — any of them.
