Change is an inevitable truth relative to any job.  New management structures, management systems and technology and more efficient ways of doing common tasks occur everyday in corporate America.  For some individuals, they are extremely resistant to change and would rather continue in the old ways of doing things.  In today’s work culture, this can prove to be very detrimental.  However, there are some people who are able to embrace the necessary changes without complaining and are able to contribute successfully to their organization’s bottom line.

In this current time and space, it is imperative to become a positive change agent- that is, someone who affects change by sowing seeds of love, peace and hard work.  Here at least four ways to become a positive change agent in your organization- exclusive of your positioning in the company:

Understand your purpose. Before you can become a positive change agent, it is imperative to understand your purpose at the job.  Of course, we work hard and smart to receive compensation and to support ourselves and/or our families.  But, I believe that we are not at our jobs by accident- we are also present to help the business to progress through our collective efforts and talents.  When we realize that our individual effort and talent is important, it helps us to build a positive outlook relative to our jobs and to accept the inevitable changes.

Develop a plan of action. When significant modifications do occur at your job, it is essential to not only embrace the change but to also develop a written plan of action on what you can do to help your organization and your colleagues to progress.  It would prove valuable to capture your thoughts on paper, which makes them tangible and living.

Be positively contagious. It is safe to state that positive individuals are contagious.  When they enter the room, it is beautiful to see how the energy and the overall vibe changes because of their presence.  In most cases, these positively-contagious individuals- whether it’s your direct supervisor, colleague or senior manager-help to create an atmosphere where people are enthusiastic about work and change.  It is recommended that you try your best to be positively contagious and help to encourage and inspire others, especially younger workers who may look up to you.

Persevere through adversity. In most workplaces, there will be individuals who are just plain difficult to get along with and they always seem to oppose whatever you do.  Thus, there will be times of opposition and adversity.  But, understanding your purpose, continually acting upon your written plan of action and striving for internal and external positivism will help you to persevere.
