If you’re not a huge fan of bold lipstick, or if you want to add more natural shades to your makeup bag, nude hues are the way to go. These tan and brown lipstick variations look stunning on women of color, and can serve as an understated way to accentuate the ample pouts black women are known for. Here are a few shades to try this fall:
MAC’s Creme d’Nude lipstick has a peachy hue that provides a pretty contrast against chocolate and cocoa skin. This creamy lipstick goes on like a gloss; a nude lip liner will hold the color in place. You can find Creme d’Nude at the nearest MAC counter, or on the website for about $14. Check out a stunning example of how to make this look work for you on the next page:
Naomi Campbell wears this peachy lipstick beautifully. Dark brown eyeliner and light pink blush complete this natural makeup look.
Dark Pink Frost by Wet n Wild is perfect for adding a blush-colored shimmer to your lips. On women with medium brown skin, the lipstick is a copper shade; lighter skinned women will have deep pink lips after applying the shade. You can purchase this lipstick for about $3 at most drugstores. Check out the Wet n Wild website for a list of retail locations. Here’s an example of how great this shade looks on:
Rihanna’s slightly shimmery lipstick blends well with her honey-colored skin. Heavy eyeliner, nude eyeshadow, and a bronze-colored blush make her lips even more defined.
Nars’ Sexual Healing lipstick is a light tan shade that looks good on virtually any shade of brown. You can dress it up by adding some lash extensions and a shocking eyeshadow color for an evening look, or apply bronzer to your cheeks and forehead and a little gloss on top of the lipstick before heading to the office. You can order the lipstick from the Nars website, or find it at stores like Sephora for about $25. Here’s an idea of how to wear this shade:
Nia Long’s glowing reddish-brown skin, subtle blue eyeliner, and dusty rose blush compliment her frosted tan lipstick exquisitely. A bit of shimmer on her neck and decolletage highlight the lip color as well.
