I Had Such High Hopes: Hair Products That Looked Good But Didn’t Produce Results

I have come to terms with the fact that I am a hair product junkie. Just as a child in a toy store, if I see it I want it. I also happen to be really big sucker for great marketing, product branding, and packaging. I absolutely love a well put together product, but after a few poor experiences I had to stop and ask myself “What good is a great looking product if the contents inside are sub par?” That’s like dressing up in all of the best athletic gear, going to the basketball court and not knowing how to play or dressing up in your best chef’s ensemble and not being able to cook. It just doesn’t make sense.

Pantene Pro-V Perfect Curls Shampoo and Conditioner
Sigh, this product duo was a disappointment. Maybe it works for some other curly-haired girl across America. These products claimed to tame and moisturize curly hair however the evidence of this is unapparent. The shampoo strips your hair leaving tangles and the conditioner is just like okay, whatever… I guess.

Cantu Shea Butter Hair Dressing Pomade
This is another pretty decent brand. I passed this product countless times in the beauty supply, secretly eying it but never purchasing it. I knew that I would eventually take it home. Finally, one day I marched into my local beauty supply determined to finally test out this product. Maybe it was the orange top that attracted me to it. Nevertheless, I got it home and I was not pleased. This product is like the man that looks good until he opens his mouth and begins to speak *Blank Stare*. It does not “add control” or “shine” or “lift” as it claims to.

TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac Conditioner
Fail. The packaging looks good but that is about as far as it goes. This product is a contradiction from its name alone. “Moisture Maniac” yeah, whatever. It doesn’t seem to moisturize at all. All this product seems to do is leave hair tangled and rough.

Organic Root Stimulator Shea Butter Softening Hair and Scalp Lotion
This product does what it claims to do which is to moisturize and soften; however, the results don’t really seem to last too long. It leaves your hair feeling dry after an hour or two which sort of defeats the purpose.

Biosilk Silk Therapy Shine Serum
This product is a little bipolar because while it does add shine the way that it claims to, it also dries out your hair at the same time. The bottle looks great but it just doesn’t get the job done. Using this product is like trying a container of water that has a hole in the bottom, a complete waste of time.
