‘Cooking Sessions With Tamar And Ms. E’: Episode 102 – Chicken À La King With Texas Toast

Cooking Sessions With Tamar & Ms. E
Tamar Braxton and Evelyn “Ms. E” Braxton are back for Episode 102 of Cooking Sessions With Tamar And Ms. E on CLEO TV, and this time, the dynamic mother-daughter duo take a trip down memory lane, creating a nostalgic dish inspired by the classic blue plate specials once served at diners. They’re making a hearty, delicious serving of Chicken à la King, paired with buttery, thick slices of Texas Toast.
Before diving into the main dish, Tamar and Ms. E get the cooking session started with a fun cocktail called Pink Panties. The refreshing drink is made with pink lemonade, whipped cream, ice, and optional liquor. Tamar suggests adding a splash of carbonated water or lemon soda for a fizzy, icy texture.
After their brief cocktail break, Tamar and Ms. E roll up their sleeves to prepare the Chicken à la King. They gather chicken thighs, bell peppers, onions, and a variety of pantry seasonings—salt, pepper, cayenne, all-purpose seasoning, and onion powder. All the seasonings are mixed in a bowl and generously applied to the chicken, ensuring every bite is packed with flavor.

Once the seasoning is done, it’s time to heat things up. Tamar preps a pan with olive oil and stresses the importance of keeping an eye on it since the oil can heat up quickly. The seasoned chicken thighs are placed in the pan for a good sear on both sides. Tamar and Ms. E then toss in extra onions and bell peppers, allowing them to soften and release aromatic flavors, adding depth to the dish.
To create a rich and creamy white gravy, they leave a bit of the seasoned chicken oil in the pan and add bouillon paste, butter, flour, heavy cream, pepper, salt, and another handful of onions and bell peppers. The velvety gravy is then poured over the seared chicken thighs, making each bite indulgent and flavorful.
For the perfect finishing touch, Ms. E toasts the Texas Toast to golden perfection in a simple toaster. The result is a comforting, mouthwatering meal that’s sure to remind you of the classic diner fare of days gone by. Tamar and Ms. E prove that cooking with love and a dash of nostalgia makes for a truly unforgettable meal.

1 medium onion, diced
1/2 cup AP flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 black pepper
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream
2 tsp of chicken bouillon powder
4 slices of toasted white bread
3 lbs of boneless skinless chicken thighs
2 cups of frozen mixed vegetables
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Method:
1. Place skillet coated with olive oil over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, onion powder, and seasoning salt. Place thighs in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove chicken from pan and set aside.
2. Add chicken bouillon base to the pan and mix. Add onions and pepper to the pan and mix well until they begin to soften. (Add more olive oil if needed).
3. Add the flour and butter and mix well. Season the flour and butter mixture with salt and pepper and continue to mix.
4. Slowly add in the heavy whipping cream and whisk until the mixture forms a cream-colored gravy. Add the mixed vegetables and the chicken thighs and allow to simmer for 4-5 minutes. Cut thighs into bite-size chunks and mix well.
5. Place toast in the toaster and set it on medium; once the toast is done, place it on a plate and cut the slices in half. Lay chicken, vegetables, and gravy mixture on top of the toast and serve.
