Influencer Summer Wheaton made headlines last week after it was announced that she was finally arrested for her involvement in a deadly DUI crash last summer that claimed the life of a rideshare driver.

On Monday, Feb. 24, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Wheaton turned herself in for the fatal collision at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, People magazine reported.

Wheaton, who boasts over 100,000 followers on Instagram, was arrested on multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to the outlet.

The Los Angeles Times previously reported that on July 24, 2024, Wheaton left an event held at the popular and heavily celeb-attended restaurant, Nobu, around 10:30 p.m. local time.

While driving down Pacific Coast Highway, Wheaton, 32, is said to have crossed the center median on the highway and crashed into 44-year-old Martin Okeke who was driving in the opposite direction.

Okeke was pronounced dead at the scene while Wheaton and a fellow passenger were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Wheaton posted bond the same day she was arrested and released from custody. There are currently no further updates regarding a trial date.

However, according to ABC 7 Los Angeles, the family of Okeke has filed a wrongful death suit against Wheaton, citing that she was “severely intoxicated and impaired” at the time of the fatal crash.

Wheaton now joins a long list of Black celebrities with DUIs or DWIs. Keep swiping for more of your favorite stars who have had trouble behind the wheel.
