Melissa Ingram left the corporate world behind and discovered a higher calling grounded in faith. Ingram is the mom of two behind Not About Me—a Christian lifestyle community that blossomed from her devotional guide and journal, It’s Not About Me. Ingram sat down with Mompreneurs host and New York Times bestselling author Nancy Redd to share her journey, wins, and what’s next for this movement.

It’s Not About Me

It’s Not About Me is about self-discovery, and ultimately becoming closer to God. “It is for anybody who is hoping to live a life that mirrors the life of Jesus Christ,” said Ingram.

The devotional journal features Bible passages, affirmations, a companion playlist—”a soundtrack for your spiritual journey”—and journaling prompts, creating space for reflection and prayers.

“Taking the time to be still and to reflect on your life, where you’ve been, and the things that you’ve gone through, to ultimately remind yourself that none of this is about you—it’s a powerful exercise,” said Ingram. “I tell people, you can do this for 30 days or you can do it once a week. Do it at your pace, but don’t do it alone.”

The former media executive is on a new path.

Before this journey, Ingram came from the corporate world. But when she and her team were laid off in 2023, Ingram found herself with time to think and regroup.

Ingram had written the devotional journal—what would become It’s Not About Me—after the birth of her son, her “pandemic baby, born two weeks after the world shut down.” It was a personal project that Ingram had no intention of publishing. When she wrote it, “I was in a space where I was really needing to hear from God,” she said.

But after the layoffs, it became clear through divine guidance that she should share her devotional with the world. “I realized that so many people around us are hurting—trying to figure out ‘Why am I here? There’s gotta be so much more than just waking up, grinding, going to work, coming home—going through the motions, which so many of us do on a day to day basis, which I was doing. I was on autopilot,” she said.

‘Your passion is about you. Your purpose is about how you are helping others.’

By walking this path, Ingram is aligned with her purpose and the values her family lives by. She grew up understanding the importance of service. Her mother, a teacher, and father, a minister and savvy businessman, instilled this early on. “It’s not lost on me the power in giving and serving others,” she said. “Your passion is about you. Your purpose is about how you are helping others.”

Ingram is encouraged by the steady, everyday wins that let her know she’s on the right path. It’s Not About Me is now available through Hallmark’s Mahogany collection, and it is being used in church small groups across the country, which was always part of her vision.

It’s still early in the journey, but only up from here. By focusing on uplifting and uniting a movement by faith—centering community rather than self—Ingram can’t lose. “I like to remind myself that everyday isn’t good but God is, and so I rest in that,” she said.
