Mompreneurs: Erica Campbell Talks Business And Motherhood
Mompreneurs: Erica Campbell Shares Philosophy On Business And Motherhood
This week on the Mompreneurs podcast, gospel star Erica Campbell shares her philosophy on business and motherhood. Campbell, who just won her sixth Grammy at this year’s awards, sat down with Mompreneurs host Nancy Redd to talk about shaping a legacy through her children and to offer words of encouragement to fellow mompreneurs.
In addition to being an award-winning singer-songwriter, Campbell is on the radio five days a week on her nationally syndicated show Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell. Between her music career and being a mom of three, a radio host, an author, and more, Campbell is mindful of accepting the right opportunities and knowing when to say no. “I wear a lot of hats but I don’t wear them all at the same time,” said the musical mompreneur. “I don’t hold myself to unrealistic standards of what people will think.”
‘I don’t want to be a public success and a private failure.’
Campbell’s priorities in business are clear—they are the “things that will keep going after I’m gone. Generational wealth and also generational blessing.”
The singer-songwriter’s journey in the celebrated gospel duo Mary Mary with her sister Tina was a crash course in business. And as Campbell’s career has elevated and her business has expanded over the years, she stays focused on the bigger picture no matter how busy things get.
“While you’re focused on your business, realize this is a season of your life. So when the season is over, you want to look around and have people still standing there,” said Campbell. “You don’t want to look around and no one’s there because you couldn’t love nobody or make space for nobody because you was hustling and on the grind.”
That’s why Campbell is deeply invested in her relationship with her three children. She prioritizes open communication, regularly checking in to stay connected with them. “If I’m out here saving the world and helping everybody but I lose them, what did I do it for? I don’t want to be a public success and a private failure.”
“Motherhood is loving when it’s difficult, motherhood is stretching yourself, motherhood is not being a tyrant,” she said.

‘Your words have power.’
For fellow mompreneurs who want to build generational wealth and leave a lasting legacy for their children, Campbell offers words of encouragement that helped her grow and elevate with every opportunity.
“A lot of times when you’ve been really low even while you’re high, you almost have a low mentality. So in order to live up, you got to think up,” she said. “I did not think I would be doing all of these things. I did not think I was capable of doing all these things.”
“What you say to yourself about yourself is everything. What you say to yourself about your future is everything,” Campbell said. “Your words have power. They manifest what you walk in.”
“Take one day at a time, one moment at a time. If you fail today, guess what, tomorrow is coming.”
Also in this episode of Mompreneurs, Erica Campbell talks about future projects and teaching her children gratitude. “What I’ve worked for is going to be in your hands—will you know how to handle it?” Watch or listen to the full episode above.
